“I like visiting restaurants where you can see community happening. I was staying with a friend for the weekend and I was told this is where we have to go after church. The charm of the small town eatery is present before you even step through the door. I saw customers holding the door for one another, greeting one another, teasing as they entered the sanctuary after their church service on a Sunday afternoon. It was obvious people didn't just eat here, they interacted on a personal level. I generally skip the chains when traveling and this is why. The food was good, the prices were fair, the service was friendly, but I love seeing community on a deeper level. The waitresses knew their regulars, treated them more like family than customers but were quick to welcome an out of towner as well. If I'm ever in the area again I will definitely be returning to Coal Oil Johnny's. If I could pack a restaurant up and take it with me I would, but then Pleasantville would be a little less pleasant. This place is a must for anyone that appreciates the spirit of a small town.“
“So I'm a born and raised jersey girl ive been coming up since the 80's. I just moved up here permanently 6 months ago. I don't stop in much but I love the bartender Danielle. She makes you feel at home. The food is always good:) I have no complaints:) thank you and keep up the good work:)“

“Admittedly I wasn't sure what to expect with the new ownership, but we were very pleasantly surprised. The food is exceptional for "bar food"; the fried fish, hot sausage, and French fries are my current favorites. The owner and staff are very hospitable and welcoming. The food rivals (similar) restaurants in downtown Pittsburgh. No joke. Food went from a 2 to a 10. We will back for sure!“
