“Don't be put off by the fact that this place is a brewery. Though the atmosphere is casual, the menu is diverse - Mussels in a phenomenal cream sauce as well as pizza and burgers - and the service is prompt and friendly. We happened to be there on a Tuesday night with live music (guitarist/singer) that was excellent. Too bad the decor has very little feel of the old train station. But the salads, salmon, Mussels and drinks were terrific.“

“We stopped in for our annual “leaving the island lunch,” and Lone Oak was exactly what it always is — a sharp location, well run.
I went straight for the Honey Garlic Fried Chicken Bowl, the same one that nearly had me inventing excuses last year just to drive back to the island. My wife followed my lead and ordered it too. The kids stuck with the classic kids’ burger and fries and had zero complaints.
This time, though, the bowl wasn’t quite the same. Still good — just… different. My wife asked, “Is this what it tasted like last time?” and all I could say was, “Yes, but something’s off.” We enjoyed our meals, just not with the same “wow” factor as before.
When we got home, curiosity got the best of me. I compared photos from last year’s bowl to this one — and there was a clear difference. If I had realized that in the moment, I probably would’ve swapped it for something else. Good, but not as good.
That said, Lone Oak remains a return‑every‑time spot for us. The atmosphere, the service, the consistency across everything else — still top tier. One slightly off dish doesn’t change that.
