“Probably the best restaurant on the island. You can see the Chef at work. I don't understand why there are no queues in front of it. Must visit! It's not expensive for what you get. Everything is made from scratch including bread, mayonnaise...“

“We ate the house dish polpo leone, octopus with shrimp and Mediterranean sauce, with a side of potatoes. Soft octopus, good and clean prawns. I would stay here again, price ok. Negative note is the coffee, finding a good one is difficult on this island. Right price“
“We bought coffee and fresh buns here every morning during our stay. They have a fantastic bakery selection at good prices – we ate way too many of their pasteis de nata ? The coffee was delicious too. I believe an Americano is known as a ‘Chino’ on the island. The staff are very friendly despite it being such a busy local spot. We miss this bakery very much. Thank you!“

“The specialty of the house is seafood, with typical Madeira dishes such as Espada. Simple but very careful dishes at an excellent price. To highlight the squid and tuna. Very good atmosphere since it is a restaurant frequented by families and residents of the area.“

“"Taberna do petisco" is a culinary gem that merits the attention of every discerning gourmet. From the very first bite, it is evident that the dishes are crafted with meticulous care and passion. The house specialties are nothing short of extraordinary—each offering is a harmonious blend of flavors, transforming every meal into a memorable experience.
The service at "Taberna do petisco" is exemplary. The staff is not only courteous but also remarkably attentive, remembering their patrons and adding a personal touch that enhances the dining experience. Notably, despite the absence of a tip on the first day, we were met with the same warmth and attentiveness on our return, a testament to their unwavering commitment to hospitality.
While the staff's proficiency in English may be limited, communication and ordering pose no difficulty. It is clear that at "Taberna do petisco," the universal language of exquisite cuisine is spoken fluently, with taste as the primary medium of expression.
A particularly commendable aspect of this establishment is the exceptional price-to-quality ratio. The prices are moderate, yet the quality of the food far surpasses what one might expect, offering superb value for money. The dishes are sure to impress even the most exacting of palates.
In conclusion, "Taberna do petisco" is a place I unreservedly recommend. Its unforgettable flavors, impeccable service, and inviting atmosphere make it a destination to which I will undoubtedly return.“

“Wonderful restaurant with local food. The restaurant is ran by a family. We met owners who started this small business in 1994, 30 years ago. Food was awesome and smile on the owners' face was authentic when we entered the place. Outstandind service done by true people of Madeira. Thanks a lot!“

“Really great, very authentic Portuguese food option. There are lots of drinks and delicious food on offer, you won't find a menu in English, but the price-performance ratio is great and the food tastes really good. Great atmosphere, still feels very local and not like a tourist spot.
Went there three times on vacation because we liked it so much. Gladly again!“
“Not only a restaurant but also a great bakery! Food is very reasonably priced and great tasting. If you like tomatoes try their tomatoes soup...interesting! For the main course you get a lot of food. For dessert Pastel the nata is a must. Delicious! They really care for their customers menus is in six(!) Differente languages.“

“Very nice and funny people! The right address, away from the overpriced chic scene on the waterfront, for Portuguese hospitality. The same applies to the Forno da Centieira a few meters further. It's not without reason that we were guests in both restaurants several times and look forward to seeing you again!!“

“Today we enjoyed a delicious soup of the day and bruschetta at O Casco, and both dishes tasted excellent! The staff was very friendly. After we answered in Portuguese, the waitress asked if she should answer in English or Portuguese. We mentioned that we were learning Portuguese, so she calmly spoke Portuguese to us, which made our experience very enjoyable. A great place for an authentic and welcoming experience!Today at O Casco, we enjoyed a delicious soup of the day and bruschetta, both tasting excellent! The staff were very friendly. After we responded in Portuguese, the waitress asked if she should continue in English or Portuguese. We mentioned we were learning Portuguese, so she kindly spoke Portuguese with us, enhancing our dining experience tremendously. A fantastic spot for an authentic and welcoming experience!“

“A gastronomic place different from the usual ones, where sophistication does not prevail, but rather gastronomic simplicity of good cuisine with traditional dishes, served with professionalism. To all this, there is the hiking to get there! On the way there you gain an appetite and on the way back you burn calories. As for the rest, the landscapes and nature paint the picture of a different family lunch than usual!I recommend !“

“Address not to be missed in Porto Da Cruz:
We had the pleasure of discovering this restaurant which doesn't look much from the outside but which turns out to be a gem well known to the locals for its simple, homemade and fresh cuisine. Greeted by Suzanna with a great smile, in French, she brought us on a large platter 4 superb fresh whole fish from which to choose the one we were going to taste. Deliciously grilled, soft, we feasted on a superb sea bream, a hearty and tasty plate. So, either we don't have a sea view, the style is more tavern, with paneling but we delight our taste buds for a more than fair price, proof that the address is good, the queue, we don't don't reserve!! We had a great bowl, a free table straight away!! Local atmosphere, a little noisy but lively. All the staff are super efficient in serving and satisfying every guest. Congratulations to everyone, ...and kisses to Suzanna!
Kid-friendliness: Yes, it has high chairs for children and the waiters are attentive to them.“

“One of the few places that prepares "express" poncha as tradition dictates. The owners were very kind and, in addition to making us drink, they also prepared an excellent dish of strips of meat and thick potatoes. Absolutely recommended, can't wait to go back!“

“Had the bread soup and found it very tasty, the chicken breast on the hot stone was also delicious, the polenta served with it was very light and well seasoned.
The cod for my wife was fresh but not very seasoned.
The portions were reasonable.
The service friendly.
The espresso ok.
I think 50 EUR is cheap for what is on offer.
The final poncha is a punch in the stomach. A pirate drink, the waitress explained to me. Well, I wouldn't have become one and would have voluntarily gone overboard ;)“

“Prepare yourself for the unfortunately usual poor acoustics of the place. But the friendliness of the staff, the food and the wine offer overcome this inconvenience. We start with an alheira, samosa and a suckling pig patty, we move on to the regional chopped, the only drawback of which is the already chronic lack of flavor and texture of the potatoes that currently proliferate in the supply circuits. Despite being homemade, it was soft and without much flavor. The wine choice fell on a Medusa Red from 2022, which deserves a score of 9 out of 10.
Vegetarian options: Anything“

“The poncha (regional, passion fruit or fisherman's) is excellent, highlighting the fact that it is made fresh and accompanied by delicious "dentinhos" (chicken wings, pork legs, among others). Attentive and friendly service! Totally recommendable!“
“Echt heerlijk gegeten, goede kwaliteit producten, met zorg bereid en heel vriendelijke en spontane bediening. “Delicious food for good price. Nice waiter, we found out that he doesn’t like coral beer :D he jokes that they make if from river water because the brewery is near the river. In the restaurant have portuguese beer which is fuller and bitter than coral. It depends on everyone’s tastes but we liked it very much. Madeiran Espada with banana and passion fruit was especially delicious.
P.S. for the waiter: You should try Czech beer I think you would like it.“
“My husband and I ate at this lovely restaurant twice during our stay in canico. The service was very good, a good choice of food on offer! Staff were very friendly! The food, wow! “Great cozy location with relaxing melodic music. The service is very friendly and accommodating! Besides the ambiance and great service, there is also freshly prepared delicious food for a fair price. I had a delicious tomato soup and a huge tuna steak with a pan full of salad. My boyfriend had the traditional fish soup and mixed fish skewer with a pan of boiled potatoes. With a glass (or three glasses) of red wine, the perfect meal and the perfect evening! Thank you!“

“Portela À Vista Restaurant is fantastic and very easy to find. I have never been to a more beautiful restaurant with such a fantastic view of nature.
On Saturdays, we knew in advance that there would be a lot of people waiting for a table, so we called the day before to make a reservation. When we arrived at Portela Restaurant, we only had to wait for a few minutes.
We asked the waitress for the traditional food, espetada with French fries, and the food was excellent. The prices for food and drinks were very reasonable considering the quality offered.
However, we were not pleased with the service. The waitress was occasionally inconvenient and often seemed upset about things that customers shouldn’t need to be concerned with.“
“Super nice service! Very quaint bar/pub/restaurant. We were just sitting here with locals who were enjoying their beer after work. We had the sandwich with everything on it and it was really delicious!
It's charming and delicious, so it's worth it :)“

“Four of us ate here. The selection of meat dishes is extensive. However, the vegetarian selection is very clear and unimaginative. There is room for improvement. The meat dishes were very good. Side dishes had to be ordered separately, which we classified as too expensive. The vegetarian dish we ordered (vegetable canoe) looked good. However, the vegetables were “very well done”. The mixed dessert plate we ordered was great - you should share it. The wine list offers a very large selection. Ambience is quaint.
Vegetarian options: Hardly any good vegetarian dishes“

“Ferrugem Bistro Garajau is one of our favorite spots in Madeira. We're fortunate to live nearby, so we visit quite often. They serve our favorite Bohemia beer, which is absolutely delicious—we highly recommend it! We've tried many dishes, but our favorites include the salmon, tataki, meat plate, secretos de porco, and their crispy batata frita.
The team at the restaurant is always welcoming and friendly, making each visit a great experience. We appreciate the high quality of food and the warm atmosphere. Thank you for consistently providing such a delightful experience!“

“We had dinner on the terrace (the food gets cold quickly). We ordered a bolo do caco (typical Po an with garlic and parsley) and for mains a secret with very good flavor, and also an espetada de limbo (not the best I've ever had, but it was good). They do not come with garnish or potatoes. The staff is nice and it is next to the beach. We came out to about €35 in total.“
“Very unique, local experience. We ordered upstairs and watched while our beef was cut and put on the skewer, grabbed some bread and wine and walked around to the dining area downstairs. You cook the meat yourself, eat with your fingers, and drink wine from a paper cup. It is not fancy, but I am not complaining! The food was great, and it was a great experience.“
“If you are in the area, it is worth having your lunch on this terrace. Unique place, with not only a view of part of the beautiful golf course, but in clear weather you can also see the Desertas, Sao Lorenzo, and Porto Santo in one view. Excellent menu and food, friendly prices. The kitchen closed at 4:00 PM.“
“This place is great. The preco is the best preco according to my husband. He got the house preco. It comes with fries and a drink. My daughter enjoyed her cheeseburger that also came with fries and a drink. She got the fresh orange juice (it did cost extra). The bolo do coca is really good here.
The girls enjoyed us sitting in the food court area outside the restaurant since there was a Lego table they could play with. You can sit inside also. The restaurant does have English menus if needed. The staff are very sweet and helpful.“

“Wonderful late dinner after an afternoon hike. We were welcomed immediately and started with amazing perfect limpets. Our fish - cod, falling apart in a bed of olive oil and potatoes -and grouper, fresh off the grill with crisped salted skin, were cooked so perfectly. Our wine and lime poncha delicious and for dessert we shared both the passion fruit cheesecake (which was more like a sweet custard) and an almond pie.“
