Menu was illegible, hand written on a blackboard. Portions were very small and pricey for what they were, food was way too salty and arrived in different times so my friend had to wait 5 minutes for her meal while mine had arrived.

Hidden gem restaurant. Was in Spain a week ago and felt like I was still there. High quality ingredients, great service and cute spot. You must go there if you want good Galician food at a reasonable price!

Food is good, but not nearly good enough for the tiny portions and high prices. Left a pretty expensive meal feeling like “what did I even eat?”. Service was friendly but not pro, the chalkboard menu is a cute concept but tonight it was barely legible, and nothing is described. Finally stay away from the drinks that aren’t wine, ours were very watered/iced down. Overall, a cute spot for a glass and some olives, but not for dinner

Bar Vivar is one of those little gems you almost don’t want to share because you’d like to keep it all to yourself. It’s small, cozy, and full of charm. The chalkboard menu changes often, always fresh, creative, and never boring. Don’t get too attached to any one dish, because it may not be there next time, but that’s part of the magic. Each visit feels like a new discovery, like the restaurant has a personality of its own. If you’re looking for a cozy night with good company, great food, and a little surprise, this is the spot.

Plonk good, food better, the kitchen knows what they're doing, delicious + lots of choice, sauce on the croquetas (sic) was glossy and punchy, they're making their own ice cream, its just quality for money

I was escaping a torrential rain on my way to more `traditional` food in Montreal, and as serendipity would have it, I walked into this café 'just for a drink, the rain will be over in 15 minutes', only to realise it was a Spanish restaurant, serving pinchos from Northern Spain...and an almond cake with the Cruz de Santiago on it waiting at the bar (full disclosure, my family is from Galicia).
I relaxed into a beer...and then decided to order some food, which was extremely good.
The staff are super friendly, not pushy. It was great sitting at the bar, watching George, Jean Baptiste and the rest of the team at work. No, I didn't know them before today, but we were chatting every so often while they were busying away.

Couldn't have wished for a better first dinner in Montreal. Thank you!!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Bar Vivar is an absolute gem in Montreal! The food was *delicious*—flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was amazing. But what really made the experience special was the staff. Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere. You can tell they genuinely care about making your visit great. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable meal and great atmosphere!

Lovely little place. We’re Spanish and decided to try it. Executed well but portions are very small. Ordered croquettes and got 1 for the price. We spent $120 and left hungry. Tortilla could use less potato and more egg, less paprika. Drinks were fantastic, but overall, an expensive snack, not a meal. Menu is also quite small and limited. Could be hard for all to find something they like.
