Carmella's Cafe and Dessert Bar

I have walked by this place about a year ago, so when staying at a nearby hotel on this visit to Greenville, I knew I wanted to give it a try. I went in right after they opened for the day to grab a cup of coffee and a pastry. I ordered a small cup of coffee, not any special, funky, crazy coffee or espresso drink – simply coffee. That coffee was one of the worst cups of coffee I’ve ever had. It was thick and sour/bitter tasting. I would assume it was leftover from the night before, but I couldn’t imagine anyone would do this (praying no one would)! Could it be the blend they use? Perhaps, but it’s awful, so I hope not! The pastry I ordered was the Bombolini… It looked pretty good and when I bit into it, it was amazing! Very tasty and I love the texture of the dough. Definitely a very nice pasty, but it was sad that I couldn’t enjoy coffee with it, though I tried. I tried to take more sips of that coffee, but it was very tough, so I gave up after about 1/3 of the small cup. Service was decent. The place looked nice but I didn’t eat there, rather I took it to-go and ate in my hotel room and since it was raining, I wasn’t going to go back to complain about the coffee. Would I return? No. I get that they have great reviews, but if you can’t get coffee right, I’m done.

We went to Carmello's twice for desserts. Tried a nice variety and everything was simply to die for. We had a chocolate peanut butter cake, a pecan tart, large butter almond cookie, and blueberry muffin. Good thing they aren't in my home town. I'd be there every day. In addition to their great desserts, they offer coffee and breakfast.

Went here for a quick coffee. Some young lovely lady was at the counter. She was very kind and the best attitude. She had a cheer about her! Her name was Brooke!!! She deserves something special!

Incredible atmosphere. Was initially greeted by Max, he was lovely and super helpful. Marco and Michelle had amazing suggestions and made them so quickly after we ordered. 10/10 experience, my favorite dessert spot in charleston.

Took my family here for the first time! It was wonderful! Brooke was seriously the absolute best! She was so kind and wonderful. We love her so much! Go see Brooke and get the carrot cake!!!

Best dessert in town! Brooke was extremely sweet and made our night even better. Our espresso martinis were to die for!!

I should have started the night with dessert. The cakes were delicious. Loved the butter cream in the birthday cake. It was light and added a nice depth to the cake. Also tried the chocolate peanut butter cake…so yummy.

I come here a lot with my coworker, and majority of the time Marco is the one who takes our orders, he steals the show every time. He’s out here lifting the mood, cracking jokes. I’m not even old enough to drink yet, but he still makes sure I’m having a great time, zero alcohol needed, just pure comedy and good energy. At this point, he fits in with me and my coworker so well that we’ve basically adopted him into our company.

Upon our visit to Charleston we stoped in your Cafe and had the most delightful young lady named Brooke wait on us. She was very sweet and helpful (what a great sales person) the coffee 😜 and desserts are wonderful. We love the place and will return. Highly recommend.

Great location, friendly service and absolutely fantastic food! The Italian, caprese and pepperoni pizza were over the top. Save room for dessert! They had one of the best Tiramisu’s I’ve ever had!

Carmela‘s is my new favorite spot! It’s been really perfect for me the last two weeks because I’ve actually been working downtown! I look forward to seeing Brooke every time I go in. Always smiling and so efficient!! She made me a mocktail with chai, wine, juice, and ginger ale; it was so good. I have to try and duplicate it at home. I highly recommend.

Brooke made us the best iced vanilla lattes! Such a fun spot! They also have great sandwiches! A must visit when you're in Charleston.

Great time upstairs at the piano bar... Colby is the best waitress we have had in ln a long time. She makes sure you are taken care of. 1st time here and we will definitely be back.

Marco and Max saved my life with some pumpkin gelato. I’m coming back very soon to try the famous pumpkin cheese cake!

We arrived in Charleston on a Friday night and we were headed here to get a snack. Traffic and parking was a nightmare, so we decided to come back the next day for lunch. We enjoyed our sandwhiches immensely. They had great flavor.
