The Goat Downtown is hands-down one of my favorite places in Greenville. The bartenders—Tiffany, Kristie, Heather, Jennifer, and Jenny—are truly amazing. They’re welcoming, attentive, and make everyone feel like a regular the second they walk in. Huge shoutout as well to Melvin, the owner, for creating such a genuine, inclusive space, and to the kitchen staff for consistently great food.
This bar is open to every culture, every kind of person, and treats every customer with respect and love. When I first moved downtown Greenville, The Goat became my safe space—a place where I felt comfortable, seen, and at home.
As for negative Google reviews: most of them honestly just reflect people who don’t understand bar culture. If you’re expecting Ritz-Carlton service at a bar & grill, downtown has plenty of other restaurants that might better fit that expectation. The Goat is exactly what it’s supposed to be—fun, welcoming, real, and full of good energy.
If you want great drinks, great people, and an even better atmosphere, this is the spot. 🍻🐐“

“What a nice surprise. Being from out of town, we weren’t certain what to expect but this establishment was so fun, friendly, and the food was excellent. Not a huge menu, but what they do, they do well. Everything is hand breaded..from the shrimp to the chicken tenders. It’s a little smokey inside but the food and fun make up for it. If we lived here, we’d become regulars.“

“Tried when they first opened and was not impressed but I gave it another shot and I am so glad I did. The Nachos, Onion Rings and Chicken Tenders are wonderful. The milk shake is really good too! The atmosphere is a little loud but a lot of fun.“

“We enjoyed the game and the food is great! Above all else, I appreciate a business who thinks to provide nursing mothers a room to care for their baby. This space removed so much stress from my usual struggle of leaving home with infant twins! So appreciative to whoever made creating the room a priority and to the employee who made me aware of the mother’s room. More businesses should do better and follow Top Golf’s lead!“

“My husband and I went last week for a few drinks and some appetizers ..we r returning customers at the ale house..we always enjoy ourselves...we had an excellent waitress named Rebecca..she is one of our favorites..she's very kind and welcoming is quick on her feet and i don't think our glasses went empty once..very attentive and thorough. We will definitely be asking for next time we come to the ale house“

“We were there last evening 3/28/26 for dinner, drinks and the band. The food was good. I ordered a drink called mango tango. They didn't have the ingredients that goes in it but the bartender asked if I minded him experimenting on making one. He did a fabulous job. I hope he remembers. 😆 Our waiter did an excellent job checking on everyone. He had a huge crowd to deal with and did it in such a timely manner. He had a gray sweatshirt on and curly hair.
Mavericks the band was playing. They kept the crowd entertained. Great place to eat and very family oriented for all ages.“

“Rush, Rush, Rush is the Story of My Life, lol, that being said, I didn't have breakfast this am so Im out and about passed Haywood Mall there's Applebee's that sits on Congaree Road so I decided to stop i ordered a 2 for 25 a lot of food for the money. Great food very good service.“
