Horn of Plenty Market Reviews
There's are very few places to eat home cooked meals an friendly people an great service
Our food was cold...lukewarm at best. I felt like it was leftover from the lunch crowd. Servers sat at table near the kitchen and basically ignored us. We were not impressed!
We finally made time to stop in for lunch. The atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming, making us feel like we had been coming for years. As a South Georgia transplant, I was dubious about "Country Cooking", but it was fantastic! Even more so, however, was the staff. Our server, Sissy, knew in a moment that there was something wrong with my plate (small allergy issue), and she had the manager (who's name I did not catch) over in an instant. Horn of Plenty Market is a restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience with great home-style cooking. Despite its limited hours, the service and food are consistently excellent. The menu features a variety of tasty options, including catfish, chicken fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, and a selection of barbecue dishes. The atmosphere has a rustic look and is very friendly and welcoming, making guests feel like they've been coming for years.
The catfish is known for its exceptional tartar sauce, while the chicken fried chicken is described as delicious. The chicken and dumplings are praised, along with the sides of mashed potatoes and gravy, cowboy baked beans, and cornbread casserole, which are all seasoned perfectly. The mac and cheese is simply macaroni and cheese, without the cheese being melted. The banana pudding is served at room temperature and contains a limited number of banana slices.
Despite these minor issues, the overall food is praised as being delicious, especially the barbecue dishes. The pulled chicken, brisket, pulled pork, and ribs are all tender, juicy, and melt-in-your-mouth. The sides, such as beans, cabbage, slaw, and cornbread, are also perfectly cooked. The fries are described as almost addictive, while the sweet potato casserole is highly appreciated, with some guests wishing they could eat every bite (though allergies may prevent it).
The pulled pork is particularly praised for being very juicy, and the mashed potatoes are considered amazing. The meatloaf and ribs are also highlighted as delicious and cooked to perfection. While the cheese biscuit was found to be too dry, the overall dining experience at Horn of Plenty Market is highly recommended for those who enjoy great barbecue and southern cooking. The staff, especially the server and the manager, are noted for their kindness and attentiveness, ensuring a pleasant visit.
Recently added reviews describe the place as cute with great decor and attentive staff, where the food is amazing and feels like home cooking. Many call it a hidden gem and a well-kept secret, with some mentioning that if more food lovers knew about it, they would face long waits. One reviewer shared that the menu is like mammaw's kitchen on Sundays, with favorites like chicken livers, which they called some of the best ever, and perfect catfish. The sides of collard greens and creamed potatoes are also highly praised. The atmosphere is casual, welcoming, and filled with friendly faces, making it a place where regulars are greeted warmly. The prices are very reasonable, and visitors are encouraged to try the banana pudding for dessert, adding to the overall home-style experience.
