Mel’s Drive-In Nashville is a favorite spot in Nashville. The staff are friendly and the service is excellent, attentive, and helpful. The atmosphere has a retro feel yet is clean and modern, with early 1900s era decorations. The menu is huge, with lots of cool drinks and a great diner menu. Meals mentioned include the omelette, the wrap, the Bloody Mary, the Caesar salad, braised rib nachos, mozzarella sticks, the Tennessee hot chicken sandwich, the meatloaf and mashed potatoes, burgers, wraps, and the pesto red pepper sandwich. The Bloody Mary uses pickle juice and is unique and delicious. The butter with the dinner role is better than any butter. The place is well run and well managed, and a nice respite from nutso broadway. There is a super cool Vinyl Vault room or speakeasy in the back that’s open on weekends. The hidden entrance is a huge, heavy vault door. All the vinyl records make it a unique space, with two record players so when one record ends, the next starts and the music keeps flowing. There is also a signed Lana Del Rey poster. Both the speakeasy and the restaurant are huge. It looks like a great spot for late-night eats, too. This is a spot worth checking out and a priority stop when the speakeasy is open, especially for those who love vinyl records.
