“Solid country bar that's been around since the 90's with live music on Saturday nights. This place is legit, with sawdust on the dance floor and all. Everyone here was super kind and welcoming, and the staff made us feel like family. Highly recommend planning your next 2 stepping date or line dancing night here, there's way more room to move and dance around than some of the other spots we've been to. Cheap drinks as well, with a really cool bartender. You can't beat old school. :)“

“Every time I go here I am welcomed with old and new friends from the past and present. Sitting around drinking buckets of beers and staring at the awesome view of downtown Houston. This Eastside hang out is a must to go to. Chat with the locals and get the feel of old Houston like it used to be!!“

“A lovely little neighborhood bar with a small parking lot and indoor, outdoor, and bar seating options. They had a little cash-only taco bar outside (I think it was $5/taco, I didn't have any). Happy hour daily from 4-8PM was $1 off draft beers that I could tell (my happy hour drinks were between $5.50-$6.50 each, and one off happy hour was $6.50). The staff were very considerate in raising the umbrellas outside so that we could see each other across the table. Inside was clean, had some cool little retro options and a pool table. Would definitely come back.“

“I was just down the street doing laundry and I had about an hour to wait, so i started walking down the street and came upon WAlabama Ice house, they where playing slow soft music. So I went in and ordered a beer, the bar tender was very polite and the people around me were super friendly, I almost wished I could stay longer, I even meet a very sweet women there. But i soon had to go and get my laundry and take it home.“

“It is rare to find a tiny, friendly, non-douchey bar in the inner loop in Houston to have one cocktail on your way home from work in the most walkable area of this city. This is one of few. It is also "local Houston." It's the way it used to be when many similar bars existed here. It is technically smaller than Manhatten bars in a town where EVERYTHING, including restaurant serving sizes, will feed four people on one entree. If you want to know this city for who it actually is, visit old-school mom-and-pop shops like this.“

“Griffs is back! The new building is awesome with around 20 TVs to watch sports. The menu with lunch and dinner specials is also back. They do a really good steak night. Trivia night is also a big deal. The people are friendly and an eclectic mix. Griffs is an easy going, neighborhood bar that welcomes people from all over the city.“

“This is the first time my husband and I went to this bar. The second we walked I knew that I would come back. The drinks are really good. The cocktails are delicious and the atmosphere is super chill. We didn’t get any food, but the kitchen smelled really good.“

This bar was originally a tailor shop with bar added later and both have collectively been in operation for 88 YEARS!It is a very eclectic place with old style bar feel. One may also see someone walk into the bar for an alteration or have a suit made and have a drink in the process.Char Bar is a MUST for someone visiting downtown Houston.We just LUV IT!“

It is a "bring your own liquor" bar with a variety of set-ups to make your favorite cocktails. They have a pretty good selection of canned and bottled beer, as well as a small selection of snacks to munch on.

“This place is one of my favorite taverns in Houston! The bar tender is always attentive and super friendly. The space is very comfortable and has lots of cozy nooks to chill out in. Great events and twice a week they host drop in games of Dungeons and Dragons, just show up and play! Professional DMs run the games and a seat at a game costs only about 10 or 15 bucks for a 3 to 4 hour one shot session. Oh! And monday steak night!!! It's actually really good steak.“

“Sammie J's is the heart and soul of the neighborhood. I’ve been coming here since 2008, and it’s been phenomenal every time. It’s one of the few dive bars around with a full kitchen—and the food is seriously good. Pro tip: don’t miss Wednesday Steak Nights, cooked by Sammie herself. Delicious, affordable, and always hits the spot.
The bartenders—Annie, Molly, Chase, and of course Sammie J—are top-notch. Friendly, fast, and they treat you like family. The vibe leans conservative, so just know that going in, but it’s a welcoming place for all. It’s truly a “where everybody knows your name” kind of spot.
They’ve got karaoke on certain nights with fun, talented locals, plus a solid jukebox when it's off. There’s also a back patio, pool tables, game machines, great drink specials, and a full menu with a ton of variety. Bonus: they do events and catering too.

“This is a very chill spot for drinks with a small outdoor patio. Inside is cozy, with a cheers like vibe. Drinks are cheap. No food served inside but it is next to a columbian food truck. TouchTunes. Usually can find 1-2 chess games being played (boards are stored with the bar tenders and are behind the bar). Parking can be hard to find on weekends“

“I love this bar because it is where I go to catch an Astros game and not see too many familiar faces. It's a word of mouth type of place. I've been running karaoke here 4 nights a week for 7 years and it's always a blast. Of course I'm biased but if I didn't work here I'd still be drinking and hanging out here.“
