Food was great. However 3 star michelin sushi spots give bigger pieces of nigiri and sashimi than this place. Left hungry. Not sure why they serve nigiri pieces the size of a pinky toe..

Uchiko is our favorite restaurant in the world. We live Michigan (and Chicago) and consider ourselves foodies. Every year we do an Austin trip and Uchiko is always the highlight of our trip . We’ve eaten at Michelin star restaurants all over the world and make it our mission to seek out the best places to eat wherever we are. If you’re lucky enough to be in Austin, this is the spot. Tonight we had Chef Jean and Jeremy and had probably the best meal of our lives. The food is off the charts. We literally couldn’t stop ordering nigiri. We ordered so much we were gifted the Uchi cook book. Honestly it was an experience we will always remember. Chef Jean, thank you. Jeremy, thank you. Uchiko, thank you. Can’t wait for our meal next year.

I would give the service an extra star if I could. Uchiko is definitely a place for special occasions and you should absolutely make that here. The food was amazing, well explained, and they did a great job accommodating for a food allergy, and even asked us if we wanted to try something new and it was excellent. The food is top quality, service is as good as you can get, and the atmosphere was great (though we got there early). Cannot recommend enough.

Everything was perfect - our server was Tommy and he really went above and beyond! We went for happy hour and had an amazing time, he even gave us a couple of desserts on the house! Such an unforgettable experience.

Overall experience was fantastic and I’d recommend Uchiko to anyone looking for creative flavour pairings and a subtle spin on Japanese cuisine, but since it’s going for a high-end fine dining experience, I’m nitpicking the details with the 4 ⭐️ rating.Went on a Friday for happy hour (4-6pm). Booked a table a month in advance so had no issues securing a reso.Food: Seafood quality is superb. Wasn’t expecting much coming from the PNW, but it was delightful. Tuna didn’t have any of the sinew in it. Rice quality is also top notch. Wasn’t mushy and had structure.Must try: gyutoro nigiri, hama chili, milk & cerealGyutoro is a house staple for a reason. Probably one of the top 5 things I’ve eaten. The light crisp from the sear and buttery chew as it mixes with the rice is a lingering sensation I will think about for a long time.Hama chili is fun and refreshing. The citrus and chili pair so well with hamachi. It seems so obvious after tasting it, but never thought to combine them together like that.Milk & cereal is like a top 5 dessert for me. First bite made my eyes light up like fireworks. They use Captain Crunch which was so nostalgic. No notes.Plates & Utensils: Given how much thought goes into the unique flavours for each dish, it warrants having a fresh plate after each round. I don’t want sauce from the toro taku temaki mixing with the hama chili. Small detail, but important when the experience is all about tasting the creative flavour profiles of each dish.I don’t mind that they use disposable chopsticks, but a holder for it or paper sleeve so I can origami my own would’ve been a thoughtful touch. Don’t want my utensils touching the table and having it perched on my personal plate was fine, but would’ve been cumbersome with getting a fresh plate. Again, small detail, but deterred from the overall elegance of the plating.Gyudon was exquisite, but the spoon given was awkward to use with the shallow dish. Made it somewhat hard to scoop out the rice. A soup spoon would’ve been better.Service: Staff was attentive and kind. They took away plates promptly when we finished with it and refilled our water regularly. Can tell Uchiko has a great team in the kitchen and out front.Bathrooms: Needed more care and attention. Garbage was overfilling in the women’s and the men’s had urine on the floor.—I’m impressed with the dishes Tyson Cole has created and would definitely considering coming back for the gyutoro and milk & cereal alone.Worth checking out during happy hour to try more of their dishes.Parking: They provide free valet, which was very thoughtful. The entrance into the parking lot was a bit confusing with the pylons. A sign to direct traffic would’ve been helpful. Saw an exit only sign but not one about where to go for valet.

For a generally mediocre experience, especially regarding some members of staff and their insistence that my girlfriend was not doing well despite her repeated statements to contrary, $410 is excessive.

I rarely take my husband to sushi restaurants because he’s been to Japan a lot and is a real snob about it. But a friend in Austin recommended Uchiko, so I took a chance. My husband said it’s the best sushi he’s had outside of Japan. What’s more, I’m a vegetarian, and they gave me an entire vegetarian menu! The only negative is that some of our dishes took 45 minutes to come out. We would have liked to order more but didn’t want to risk waiting that long again. But I’m giving 5 stars because the food was THAT good.Parking: Free valet

Truly unfortunate and terrible experience on Friday night. We arrived early and checked in at the front desk at 7:15 for our 7:30 reservation. We grabbed a drink to pass time until our table was ready. The bartender made the entirety of my cocktail without ice then put ice on top and handed me a lukewarm $14 drink - a sign of what was to come.We sat outside and watched party after party that arrived after us be seated (including multiple other parties of the same size be seated in the area that we had a reservation for). Finally the GM came out to us close to 8 and sat us inside where we sat for another 15 minutes before a server came and talked to us.We decided to order the Omakase. We finally got our first dish at 8:45 (which was very good!) and were hoping that our experience was trending up, but we couldn't have been more wrong. The kitchen was wholly incompetent at coursing out the service. We proceeded to sit for another 90+ minutes as the restaurant alternated between bringing out 2 courses at a time then not talking to us at all for 20 minutes. The food was largely excellent but the meal took so long that we left the restaurant hungry, tired and disappointed close to 10:30 after having been at the restaurant over 3 hours. We will be actively telling family and friends to not waste their time and money at this restaurant. It's clear that the fame has gone to their heads and they do not care about the dining experience at all.

Genuinely one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Our server was attentive and incredibly detailed. The food was astounding and my vegetarian husband agreed it was one of his favorite meals - stellar options for vegetarians! I had somakase and my server had incredible choices. 11/10!

World class sushi with an innovative flair. This Austin restaurant is deservedly included in multiple national publications and it lives up the hype. Always interesting dishes with beautiful presentation.

Food was amazing. Very authentic with great flavor. The service could have been better; I had a reservation for 9pm on the patio and wasn’t seated till 925pm and the patio was still full so I had to sit inside. Unsure why I even had a reservation at that point. Also, our server talked way too fast.. was so hard to understand him. Not to mention how loud it was inside. Overall, food was great , service was lacking for the price.

Uchiko is top notch for good nigiri and sashimi! Their composed dishes are also really amazing. The flavor profiles that they put together are unique and I really don’t see them anywhere elseHappy hour at Uchiko is the best deal. They even have a happy hour omakase now for $100-$115 for 2 people which is pretty reasonable. We did a la carte. You can’t go wrong with anything you order. But my top 3 pieces that I always get every time I visit an Uchi restaurant are: trumpet mushroom, avocado, and gyutoro. Also, ask for Brian!! What a freaking amazing waiter. He came by at just the right times and made good conversation about what pieces we were ordering. I am definitely asking for him next time.
