So many memories here and I was so glad to take my son here and of course he loved it as much as I do. This is the Dallas icon. Don’t rob yourself by not coming here. The people are awesome that work there. I’m more than highly recommend.

Absolutely unacceptable experience.

I visited Sony Bryant’s Smokehouse in Dallas for a late-night mom-and-son date. Our total was $60.54. I clearly instructed the cashier—Michelle (who spells her name like “Michael”)—that I wanted to pay half cash, half card. My 11-year-old son handed her $30 in cash, and I expected to pay the remaining balance on my card.

Instead, Michelle charged my card the full $60.54 and took my son’s $30 as well. That’s a $90 transaction for a $60 order. When I realized the mistake the next morning, I immediately began calling to get the issue resolved.

After days of trying, I finally spoke with the general manager, Dominique, who said she was reviewing the footage. According to her, Michelle claimed she gave us a receipt—but I never received one. Dominique later confirmed a receipt was printed, but again, nothing was ever handed to me. I only learned about the double payment when I checked my bank account the next day.

When I confronted them, I was told the $30 was considered a tip. Let me be extremely clear: why would I or my 11-year-old child leave a $30 tip on a $60 order—especially when we verbally communicated how we were splitting the payment? That explanation is not only dishonest, it’s deeply insulting.

I’ve disputed the charge with my bank and am still awaiting Dominique’s final response on whether Michelle will be held accountable. Regardless of the outcome, I will not be returning to this establishment while this employee remains on staff.

Taking money from a child is unacceptable. Lying about it to upper management is even worse. This was only my second visit, and while I initially appreciated the 24-hour BBQ concept and the food itself, this experience was deeply disappointing and disturbing.

I’m posting this not out of spite, but to ensure no other customer—or child—is put in this position again.

Came for Brisket Mac&cheese, but they didn't have one on the menu. So I went for the next best thing. BRISKET BAKE POTATO. First time trying them out. Not bad.. Not Bad, I must say. The staff is very cool and friendly. Customer service is 10/10. BakePotato 8/10. Prices are ok.. It's a little bit more than expected, but hey, this is 2025. Lol... I will come back. Brisket is pretty tasty. I wish the potato was Bigger.

I was in Dallas this past weekend and we got to the hotel very late and couldn’t find somewhere open past 10pm and Sonny’s not only was open 24hrs but also delivered and the food was fresh but most of all amazing! I’m from CO and I will definitely be recommending this restaurant for anyone traveling through. The brisket backed potato was delicious!

This location is the OG of Dallas bbq. It looks the same as it did 30 years ago. It is like stepping into a time capsule!! They still have the school desks and the old sign. The staff were quick and very nice. The bbq is the same wonderful food it has been forever. Even the onion rings (which really are giant) took me back years, because they have that same flour and pepper batter they've always had. The rings are huge, but cooked perfectly. It's nice to have something you can count on to stay as good as it was. The beef is lean and flavorful. The turkey is cooked perfectly.

This is a true to Texas hole-in-the-wall BBQ place in the BEST way possible. Open 24 hours. We got there really late but they had food for us and I appreciate it greatly. Food was great, same for service and I just love the place. Not fancy, not supposed to be, just great BBQ in the Dallas Texas way. I’ll be back.

Not good 8.00 for 2 ribs and the only thing thats still the same is the sauce
. Really give sunny Brian a bad name. Use to be best in dallas. Movie stars come in every day. And for the people that think it's good. They have no idea how good it was......OG ..customer for 50 years. It's over.👎
