“Visited RGV family during the HOT Summer month of June from my local Houston area suburbs. La Mexicana bakeries iconic to Elsa, Tx location has been a staple to my family heritage. Reminiscing early morning trips my parents would make for the freshly made delicacies they would bring from La Mexicana are sweet memories embedded in each morsel we have the preveilage of enjoying now even after our parents have been called hm to our Lord. RGV has many stiff competitors in the business. However, each bakery has it's own unique artisan synonymous of their own creations that stand above the rest where quality, taste, presentation & customer service is key. La Mexicana has stood true to these standards throughout the decades. “La Espiga is the best bakery in the RGV. Their pan dulce is much better than the overhyped and overpriced Paris Bakery. Make sure to try their soft, flavorful conchas, heart shaped pan de polvo, and white bolillos. My only problem is their small parking lot that is full of pot holes.“
“The doors are not handicap accessible (considering one is kept locked), nor is there space to get through. However, within, there is plenty of space for walking aids & everything seems to be within reach.Their barbacoa is always delicious, & they have the best bread. The customer service is always quick & helpful, no matter how busy their drive-thru is. The parking is a bit too close to where the drive thru is.“
“I walked in wondering if a custom roll size could be done and sadly they were unable to but still managed to exceed my expectations. My teen daughter is very selective on what she consumes and she LOVED the original roll. I ordered the cake not really knowing what to expect about a month ahead of time since I work out of state and would be gone and they came THROUGH! I love the detail they put into her valentines day gift. It was fresh, on time, beautiful, tasty. The customer service that was provided is rare for the valley. They definitely have my service from here on out. Very affordable as well, largest size cake was under $100. Way better than the bundt place, these you can see them bake and even taste fresh! “Bakery shop off of Alamo Rd. Enough parking space. Bread here is baked freshly every day. They have a big selection of sweet Mexican bread and they also sell hot food. At the back, they have cold drinks including milk and juices. The cashiers are nice and “
“What an amazing selection! We got to pick and choose our items. We restrained ourselves and still spent $15 on cookies and goodies that are reasonably priced. Friendly clerk. We couldn't eat everything at once, but two days later the cookies were still delicious.“

I have eaten donuts from Strange Donuts in Missouri, Death by Donuts in Seattle, and Hypnotic Donuts in Dallas. I can honestly say, without a doubt, that El Fenix donuts has the BEST CHOCOLATE Glazed donuts that I have eaten!“
