Messina Hof Hill Country Winery

My wife and I did a wine tasting here on a Friday afternoon. Alberto was working and was a great example of a friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive host for us. We abandoned our table and stood with him at the bar and visited throughout our time there. Great wine, great staff.

It is a winery not a place to stay

We came to Messina Hof and visited with Jan. She made the experience fun and informative. We had a great tasting and plan to be back.

Did not stay this time but Messina Hof is one of our favorite wineries to visit.

Right away, the wine steward with vibrant red hair was incredibly friendly and welcoming. She brought such a fun, energetic vibe that really elevated the whole experience. They were also open later than a lot of the other wineries in the area, which made it an easy stop for us. We ended up sharing a flight and, just from chatting, she surprised us with a couple of extra tastings, which was a really nice touch. She also recommended trying their homemade fudge and even offered us a sample. It was delicious and definitely worth it.

Overall, good wine, great people, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Definitely worth a stop.

My boyfriend and I had never tried this winery before but were very impressed but the delicious options and very knowledgeable staff. They also have wine infused jams and mustard!

We love our wines from Messina Hof. We always stop in and not just because we are members. The wine and service is always great. We are soo lucky to have one close to home as well. Can't wait for our next trip to the hill country.

What a beautiful location. The inside of the main building is very inviting and the outside covered patio area is very relaxing. This is a dog and military friendly location. I had two port wines, I unfortunately can’t remember their names but both were smooth but one had a chocolate after taste. I was going to call it after that but this sweet person named Jan kept on having me taste some different flavor wine and mixed some flavors that convinced me into another glass and a couple bottles. Jan knows how to do business and honestly nice to se someone that has very good people skills. I need to go back and get more.

We stopped at Messina Hof as part of a travel app that we use. We had a wonderful afternoon with great service and wines. Jan (the wine steward) was friendly and helpful with excellent recommendations as we talked about the styles of wine we enjoy. We had glasses of the Sparkling Almond wine and Cabernet Sauvignon. They were perfect for our tastes and we left with a bottle of the Sparkling Almond to enjoy later. Nice wines and a gorgeous sunset made the day special.

We were surprised at how good the wines from the Winemaker's flight were! I wasn't interested in trying one from the flight, and they let me sub another with no fuss. Alberto poured for us - he was fun and gave great wine descriptions. Compared to the other vinyards in the area, this had much more seating and a more relaxed atmosphere. I wish we would have just stayed here and bought a few glasses instead of trying tastings at other vineyards!

Love coming here!! It’s ALWAYS on our go-to list when we come to Fredericksburg. Wonderful wine, great service, friendly staff & great atmosphere! Highly recommend & we are Fredericksburg frequent flyers! ♥️

I normally don't bother with reviews, but in this case, if I can prevent someone else from experiencing the terrible service that we received at this winery, it'll be worth it. We arrived about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 12/16/25, to take advantage of a wine tour pass that my wife purchased. Jan, our server, seemed very nice initially, but after a couple of tastings from the five we were promised, we were ghosted immediately when some other customers approached and began a conversation with her. Those three ladies and my wife and I were the only people in the winery at the time. We waited for about 10 minutes, and then my wife decided to approach her and ask for another tasting. At this point she asked another employee to come and assist us. The new server (very rudely) helped us for one wine tasting, but she got busy somewhere else and subsequently we got no service at all. Eventually, we got up to leave and Jan seemed very surprised that we were leaving. I told her that we had waited long enough and that we needed to go.

I can understand that on weekdays fewer employees are working. But we had already been to several other wineries where the same kind of situation was true, and these individuals worked very hard trying to serve everyone there for a tasting. In this case we were served a couple of times and then completely ignored. Very, very, very bad service. It didn't spoil our day for a wine tour, but we now know where not to go in the future.

Came down from DFW for a few days before the Christmas crunch & visited our winery in Fredricksburg. Jan was pouring & shared a port local to the area-- de- lish, lish! The wine club membership with MH is 2nd to none & we chilled before the ride back north. For a festive great time, phenomenal wines & service visit MH in Hill country. We'll be back soon! --CJ

We went in with no appointment and were treated wonderful. It was refreshing to know the membership was an option but not feel it was pushed down our throat. My first two tastings were not to my liking, but when Juan Gonzales (GM) came by our table and talked to me, he determined what I might like better, changed up the list more to my preference, and added two additional tastings to make up for the ones I did not care for. In the end, he changed our entire experience, I walked out happy and with multiple bottles of Paulo Sagrantino. Yum! This was also the only place that when you sample the premium wines, they include the glass to take home. Definitely should be on your short list to go to.
