“Finally made it to The Farm House Restaurant after seeing an episode of The Daytripper when Chet and crew toured the city of Mexia. Arrived the evening of Friday 4/3/2026 after a full day of sight seeing in the city and surrounding area. Fortunately there were still available tables in the large dining areas. We may have arrived during what appeared to be the early dinner rush. Turns out they are almost always busy due to being a local favorite.
Our welcoming pleasant waiter was Ethan who is styling in forever cool Ray Ban glasses. He assured us everything on the menu was very good and we wouldn't leave unsatisfied or hungry. He was correct about both. My wife ordered the grilled shrimp on steamed rice with a bottled Shiner Bock. I ordered the catfish and shrimp with onion rings and a pink lemonade. I had the very generous lunch portion after seeing a dinner platter on the way to a couple who were seated just before us. Both of our meals came with some of the best tasting pinto beans and coleslaw that we both agreed were complimentary sides for both our meals. I also ordered a side salad w/ honey mustard. Found out it could of easily fed both of us. Maybe put it as a large salad on menu sides.
Ethan was busy but was constantly returning and checking if we needed anything. All while getting another requested lemonade and a beer for wife. When our meals arrived I curiously asked Ethan what type of catfish they used and where it was from. He didn't want to guess and went to the kitchen to find out. He returned soon after and said he would of gotten an answer but the kitchen was busy with orders and understandably he didn't want to disrupt their rhythm.
Well looks like we have another reason to return and maybe The Farm House will not be as busy. I guess it could of been either blue catfish filet strips or well trimmed medium size channel catfish filets. Whichever they were they came perfectly hot, lightly coated and great tasting. Wife's grilled shrimp were tender, plump, and lightly seasoned to not cover the shrimp flavor.
We left very satisfied with the service, food, and atmosphere.
Highly recommend if in or near Mexia. If they are too busy use their drive through to get your catfish fix.
Made for us a very memorable Good Friday dinner.
Thanks again Ethan.
Sincerely,
Rick and Pam.“
