COOKIE PLACE AND SWEETS Cafe • $
208 E Park Ave, Pharr

“I had not been able to find decorated Christmas cookies near where I live in Edinburg, so I found Cookie Place and Sweets online. I ordered them very easily on the website, and placed the order for pick up close to Christmas. On Friday, I braved the traffic on 281 (a lot of construction is going on), and easily found them on Park St. The order was beautiful! So artistic! I love how each decorated cookie is individually wrapped so they don't get stale! And the taste is great! These are crispy , not soft, which is exactly what I wanted. Definitely going to order from here again!“

“The place is street..as street can get...but sometimes these places are the bomb for hidden gems in food experience!!Well..this place was not quite the place for a 5 star taste..i struggled to give a 4...but service was fast...place was clean(i avoid rush hour like the herpes) but food was meh..The pros is that it serves 6 tacos...fully loaded with the essentials to top them off...i have seen many places scaling down quantities to 5 tacos...or creatively giving you 4 tacos and other things to get ur stomach full of everything but tacos??...Good enough to recommend...and probably come again in a pinch or while around here in Milpa land....but i won't seek out and drive the 10 miles for tacos....Prices was proper..about 16 smacs gets u an order. Free sida beans ...So come 1 come all...its a great place to fill ur empty stomach on good ole fashioned street tacos ?!!Mike“

RINCON CHILANGO Mexican •
4701 S Jackson Rd, Pharr

“The tortas are really amazing! I have tried pastor and carne asada. They are big enough it is 2 meals for me. The little cup of beans they include were delicious. You can get a combo that comes with a side of fries and a drink and the price is very reasonable. I had been searching for a place that made really good tortas like we had in Mexico and this is definitely the place. I cant wait to try the rest of the menu.“

“Grilled Chicken was delicious! All trimmings (charro beans, onions, salsa, tortillas) were great too, just no rice served anymore on plates. The establishment is really clean with easy drive-in and order friendly. They accept credit card and cash payment.“

“They make great snacks and make them like I want them if I want to change it up. If I feel like having a Smoothie.. add fruit chunks on top. Done ?? last order I requested was my manzana loca. love their Crazy Apple with gummies, ect... but I felt like switching it up and felt like a Tropical Manzana vibe. so my version was Tamarindo Apple with Mango and Pineapple chucks with Tamarindo pieces...loved it?!!!“

Aguas Frescas Don Chuy Ice Cream Shop • $

“Aguas frescas are great! As soon as you pull up they walk up to your car and give you free samples. I have tried 6 of them and honestly all of the drinks were great. Some contain milk so that did a number on my stomach. They are all good, you will not be disappointed. I also tried the chicharon preparado, I wasnt a fan. But, if you like the vinegar pork rinds its a topping for you. Hit them up if you need a good refreshing drink. 8.8/10“

El super Taco Mexican • $
Donna

“My late night jaunts in Austin have usually lead me to a number of late night spots, most of which has been food truck taquerias and cater to us hungry night owls in the local food scene. One such spot has been El Super Taco, which is east of I-35 and a stone's throw from the airport. While I wouldn't call their food super per se, I would note that they've been a solid option practically every time. (#1)The truck itself is parked at an old gas station, which they've converted to an outdoor dining space complete with parking and picnic benches for folks who want to chow down on the spot. During the pandemic they had built an where they take payment straight through a window and of course, it's cash only. The wait isn't too long for the food and during their heydey, the tables were usually filled with people. At 2AM, not so much.Unlike the Houston taco scene, they have asada (#2) as one of their choice meats, followed by pastor, barbacoa, cecina, pollo, chicharron, campechano, and deshebrada. The latter is a shredded beef that has been one of their best sellers and is not commonly found at most taco spots. Their barbacoa and pastor are good, but they are commonly sold out before their night is over. They also have breakfast tacos during select times of the day, and that's do a very good huevos based taco with nopales or tocino or salchipapa or the classic chorizo and/or spinach. The tortas, sopes, quesadillas, and sincronizadas are worth considering, but the gorditas and tostadas are very underrated.Speaking Spanish isn't required (#3), it is helpful. The staff is quite good about expediting the food, especially when there is a line. It hasn't been a problem during their later hours and there's been plenty of seating.Lastly, I recommend taco selfies for that sick mural. Most taco stands / trucks won't have something that artistic, so I recommend taking advantage of it while it's still here.___________(#1) Consistency and reliability. It matters in life and in tacos.(#2) Seriously, what's the deal with the meat "fajita" in Houston?(#3) Welcome to Austin!“
