“I just ate here for the first time today and I have to say it was wonderful! The staff is so kind, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere was simple beauty. I had the beef enchiladas and they were fantastic! My wife had the mango margarita which was wonderful. We really are fortunate to have this gem right here in Portland, Texas. If you haven't tried it, you really need to!“

They were able to accommodate a last-minute reservation for around 35 people, and when we arrived the area was already cleared and prepared for us with staff on standby ready to assist. The food was absolutely amazing, and the customer service was top-notch—patient, courteous, and so attentive. I am beyond grateful for the wonderful service and experience we had celebrating such a special day. Thank you all for doing such an amazing job! Highly recommend!“

“The girl serving us had an attitude and the other worker who was checking the temperature of the foods on display was taking the temperature and not wiping the thermometer after each dip. I'm taking culinary arts and this is one of the first things we learned to do in my safety and sanitation class. I didn't get sick afterwards tho so I'm not complaining, just making whoever is in charge of this aware of what happened. We chose this location bc the one in Corpus Christi is always packed. I wanted the asada but there was barely any and it looked very dry. We would go back to this location again tho, just because of how fast service was. I forgot to take pictures of the food but it was realllyyy good. The barbacoa.

I really want to thank the team there because I have had perfect orders and such kind team members when I know those late nights can be difficult. “Took us a while to try this place, but they’re easily the best Mexican food downtown. They have really big servings too, so consider sharing if you don’t want leftovers. They’re also priced pretty fairly for a place in the area. It’s nice that this restaurant is here, I’ll be back.“

“We were looking for some good street tacos and we found them! It did take about 30ish min if to get our food but it was packed when we got there, always a good sign, you lookin for fast food, there’s a McDonald’s down the street. Food is worth the wait! Make sure you grab a Mexican Coke with your meal or you’re missing out!! The guys working the truck were friendly and they had pagers for orders so no waiting outside for your name to be called. A plus during the hot summer months. We tried the Mini Tacos(asada) Birria quesadillas and the Mexican hot dogs. Definitely coming back!“

“This for me is the absolute best Tex-Mex restaurant I have ever had. The beans are incredible and they have homemade tortillas. I've eaten Mexican, Tex-Mex all over Texas, California, New Mexico & other states. Even in cities. Besides my grandmother's cooking, this is the BEST. When I say I want Mexican food, this is exactly what I mean. I have to DoorDash every day cause I work out of town. And this is the best I've had. Can't give enough praise! It's delicious!!!!“

Plus it's super affordable. It was like 9 dollars for everything. If you're inTaft stop here for a quick bite to eat. You're going to love it. Plus its very clean, and cool. Temperature wise. “The seafood items on the menu are pretty much unique to La Ribera. That's a holdover from when the Morgan Street Seafood Market was housed next door. Their oyster and shrimp tacos are a nice change of pace from the ordinary. My wife says the fish and shrimp soup is great but it does tend to sell out early. The place isn't fancy but the food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable.“

“Went for a Sunday brunch yesterday. It was delicious as usual. If you appreciate true authenticity in ambiance, El Alteno Taqueria is exactly like walking into most any average cafe deep in Mexico. I had the breakfast porkchop plate (huevos rancheros con chuleta de puerco). My companion had the migas plate. They were both delicious. Our server was very welcoming and quickly brought everything as requested. The only thing that has become disappointing is that almost anything and everything that is requested now like additional condiments, more tortillas, etc. are pricey and are added to the bill. Prices on the menu are extraordinarily reasonable, but any additional requests being added to the bill inflates the total. The bill is always unclear with no prices or total making it impossible to leave the correct tip amount until getting the total and paying at the register. Getting a full understanding of the accounting for the bill at the register is challengingly difficult at best. Since the total price is still relatively reasonable, I always just go ahead and pay. Where before the pandemic two people could get what we got for under $15 is now well over $25. But...It's the same most anywhere so what can you do?“
