great concept, poor execution, even worse service. asking for a mocktail, then being served an alcoholic beverage, asking for a drink with matcha and being served something with chai, it’s a busy saturday night and there’s a 20 minute wait just to order and the bartender yells at you across the room to not leave even though they’re swamped, being told your tab is saved under “card holder visa” - like i’m sure that won’t cause issues- like i said, great concept, poor execution, and even worse service.

Great little spot for awesome drinks! This was our first time here and the bartender was amazing in explaining how they make drinks. We told her what we liked, and she made drinks accordingly.I ordered something like a Paloma and the rest of my group ordered old fashioneds.The drinks were delicious and the service was exceedingly hospitable!Will definitely be returning.

Our evening at Modern was significantly diminished by an experience that left us questioning the establishment's professionalism. Our bartender, who had seemed friendly, concluded our visit on a sour note. As two couples, it was evident that we were together, yet when the time came to settle our bill, our request was met with an odd question about our group's size and subsequently a split check for four individuals, disregarding the natural couple's arrangement.To add to our discontent, we noticed our bartender indulging in a shot herself just before closing our tab. This unprofessional behavior was already enough to raise concerns, but the situation was exacerbated when we found our bill was not itemized,which obscured any attempt to understand or verify the charges. When we questioned this, the atmosphere turned uncomfortably tense, as if we were at fault for their oversight.Regrettably, I am compelled to share this review to reflect the subpar service we received at modern. It's unfortunate when the actions of the staff detract from whatcould have been an enjoyable night out.2Thank you for responding. I want to assure you that the intention behind my review was not to harm your business but to express a genuine concern from a customer's perspective. Cool little spot! Walk in the front door and it's like entering someone's living room ?Limited seating is available. There's no menu to order off of, but you can either order a classic drink or do what we did , and let the mixologist make one for you... you give thoughts and ideas what you'd like out of the drinks(liquor type, fruity, refreshing, ect....) and they'll whip something together. Was a great night cap to a great evening! Would love to come back sometime

I went here a little before I moved away and it was an amazing experience. Any combination of flavor and base liquor you can imagine, the bartenders here can nail. You can also order a classic cocktail with some sort of spin or added flavor to it, and I had great experiences doing that. I highly recommend asking the bartenders about the drinks they make you because it is a fascinating conversation. I did and my bartender went into full detail, broke down everything she did, gave me tiny pours of some of the ingredients she used so I could understand the flavors, everything. The atmosphere is also great, it's a small, intimate space that's very comfortable to hang out and have a conversation in. One of my favorite cocktail bars anywhere, not just San Antonio!

Mixology at its finest. No menu. They can make the classics or you tell them what you're in the mood for and they will design a drink for you. Sometimes I just ask for a drink that tastes like Christmas. Never get the same thing twice but it's always delicious.Ashanti and Brian are our two favorite bartenders, but all the folks that work there do an amazing job. A great kind of loungey place inside - sit down with your date or friends and hang out a bit. Outside is more of a tiki feel with a canopy and heaters in the winter, coolers and fans in the summer.
