Sunken Gardens Reviews
Pretty close to a home cooked meal, was recommended by one of the locals. Hamburger steak was great. Fried chicken looked good but passed. Fried shrimp and fish are pre packed (daughter liked it). Assortment of cooked veggies all looked good, Im a green bean eater and they were excellent. Salad bar has all the sides you can ask for. Daughter (picky eater) filled her plate and ate it all.
Will return if we pass thru Shiner again during their hours.
Great food, as much or as little as you want of each dish. Really fresh, home cooking!
Hidden treasure. This buffet-style eatery has it all. Down home food and not bad on the pockets

Sunken Gardens offers a unique dining experience, with a buffet-style menu that charges by the pound. The restaurant features a wide variety of hot and cold options, including sweet and spicy beef, catfish, and jalapeño-cheese beefsteak, as well as pasta salad, crab salad, and zucchini salad. The pasta salad is cooked al dente, and the sides, including macaroni and rice, are freshly made. The restaurant also offers a selection of cobblers, with options such as pecan and blackberry. The atmosphere is cozy, with a moderate noise level and good music playing in the background. The building is an older wooden structure but is nice and clean, creating a warm, welcoming environment. There is a covered porch overlooking the Spoetzl Brewery, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal on a nice day. The staff is excellent, accommodating, and knowledgeable, and the manager and cooks are happy to chat with customers. The food is fresh and homemade, with many describing it as some of the best down-home cooking around. Prices are reasonable, with a charge of $7.99 per pound for food, plus $2 for drinks and a tip. Overall, Sunken Gardens is a great spot for a delicious, hearty meal in a friendly atmosphere, perfect for those seeking healthy, home-cooked options.
