Down and Out is a restaurant located inside the Brahma Express in Stockdale. It is a take out place where the food is affordable and delicious. Don’t let the location deceive you. The honey butter chicken sandwich is the best chicken sandwich ever, described as crispy, sweet, buttery chaos on a bun that is criminal. The crispy fried chicken thigh sandwich with jalapeño slaw and hot honey is served fresh and juicy. The Pollo verde is a chicken crispy sandwich with a delicious garnish and a nice kick of spicy. The Mojo Pulled Pork, the Soto with vibrant and fresh Verde sauce, and the wedge salad with a perfect balance of sweet and salty are all homemade. The bacon on the BLT is superb and the touch of arugula brings it to another level. The hamburger is extraordinary and the fresh french fries are amazing. Everything is highly recommended for anyone around Stockdale or on the way to Corpus Christi from Austin.
