A&J Restaurant is one of those places that reminds you why some restaurants last for decades. The walls are covered with Washingtonian “Best Bargain Restaurant” awards, and after eating here, it’s easy to see why.

My husband and I tried A&J for the first time on Saturday. My husband got the spicy beef and tendon noodle soup while I got the spicy beef noodle soup. We also split garlic cucumbers (not pictured) and soup dumplings. The garlic cucumbers were very solid. The soup dumplings were a little disappointing since a lot of the soup had already left the dumplings by the time we received them. They were warm, but didn't have much soup in them at all.

chinese style fried chicken noodles could use more salt but the broth was mild and comforting. spicy beef tendon soup (szechuan style) was so yum! noodle texture was great, beef suuuper tender, & broth very flavorful. pan fried beef bun was good but not a must-try

service was slow.. fried chicken wasn’t served until half my noodles were eaten but the chicken was seasoned great!
