This was our first trip to 1799. We will return. The Inn was well appointed and the restaurant was intimate. There is one table by the fire place. Menu was not too extensive ( which is preferred), but had plenty of choices of proteins, pasta and salads. I was very impressed with the wine and cocktail list. Wine spectator awards for many years. Great choice of local medal winning wines. Cocktails were creative with quality liquor and fresh ingredients. Plating matched the quality...
Our dinner was very good, but not as wonderful as I had hoped. The butternut squash soup, to which I was so l was so looking forward, tasted like seasoned cream. I could not taste the squash at all. The chef kindly accommodated my pickiness by switching the side of my chicken dinner to mashed potatoes. My meal was delicious, especially the mustard sauce on the chicken. Overall a good experience. We were seated in the Main Dining Room and never offered the opportunity to sit in the Library Room. The food was good overall but slight misses. The pear salad was good but the plating was inconsistent. One plate had few nuts and other plate had too many. The short rib was literally colder than the other items in the entree which made each bite odd. We enjoyed the desserts. Good value and good ambiance. Beautiful property.
