Our server was wonderful and the food was great! Zander, our server, was wonderful. The food came out promptly and tasted great. We had a wide variety of food and all of it was wonderful. My only complaint is when we checked and they told us basically we had an hour and 30 minutes to eat and then had to be out as they were booked all night. I did not think that was very welcoming. I understand it was a busy weekend, but there should've been a little, more flexibility with their reservations. We were out on time, but it was offputting.
Food is always quick and delicious, and the service is great too. My favorite is to come late on a Monday night, singer/songwriter night starts at 9 so an 8:30 reservation lets you order from the kitchen and then enjoy a wonderful vibe if you like live music.
We enjoyed our at The Local! The Meatloaf was outstanding, along with the Burrata Caprese Salad and the Brownie Sundae! Our waiter was attentive and helpful. I can't wait to go again very soon!
I have lived the Local. However the last couple times I've been in I e been a little disappointed. First off, I would order 5 bowls of the creamy crab soup! (Please don't switch to tomato based!) It is my favorite thing there along with the cauliflower/brussels sprouts apps. The last time I was there with family and friends and ordered a burger, medium. It was definitely on the rare side. I almost ordered again, but my husband ordered one medium well and he said it was also on rare side. The frites were good. Our friend whose birthday we were celebrating ordered the short ribs and said they were fantastic. I ended up with Caesar Salad which could have stood a bit more dressing and croutons were sparce. That was disappointing since I'm trying to watch intake, and it just lacked flavor. I should have requested dressing on side, but didn't. Bread or maybe a protein offering for additional cost would have been nice. My last thought is that those chairs at least on the first floor are the most uncomfortable chairs I've ever sat in at a restaurant. I found myself wondering how quickly we could finish and leave and I had to stand in between courses because my back was hurting so badly. I think barrel back chairs are much more comfortable than ladder back chairs, but that might be part of the point to keep people moving in and out. We thoroughly enjoyed our waiter and appreciated his input on what he'd recommend, etc. (I appreciated it, but I've found no one makes meat loaf like my mama did! So I just stick to my own/hers since everyone has an opinion on meat loaf it seems. ;-) ) Others were attentive in terms of water and clearing table. Everyone is friendly, which is always a plus in the hospitality business. Two-thirds of us were just a bit disappointed in our main dish/salad, but LOVED the crab soup!
We visited The Local upon its opening on a Sunday at 5pm. We dined outside where the street was quiet and the music at just the right volume to enjoy but not interfere with conversation. The meatloaf and tenderloin entrees were exceptional. We finished with peach cheesecake and a brownie sundae which perfectly completed our delicious meal. We were so excited to have found this restaurant and recommend it highly.
Really fun to dine at the The Local. The chef keeps great recipes and innovates; meaning the menu is very enjoyable. Great wine options and far deeper selections than most other C'ville restaurants.
Great experience. Lovely location in Belmont neighborhood. Nice historic building with a neat vibe. Wonderful service. Menu includes all favorite southern comfort foods. My meatloaf was perfect. Plate presentations were really good too. Highly recommended.
Excellent, delicious meal for my friend's birthday. Nice to sit outside on a night when it wasn't brutally hot--they have a pleasant outdoor space. The waiter was smart and fast and friendly. The food was delicious.
Arrived at our reservation and were sat immediately, even though I made a reservation for inside we were sat in the outdoor area. We went when it was quite busy so the service was slow to start but was good for the rest of our meal. Ordered the spicy old-fashioned which was watered down and the spice was overpowering, switched to the Cab Sav with my order of the short rib. Overall the dishes we ordered were underseasoned and underwhelming. Food came out quickly and the portion sizes were good. The fried chicken seemed to be the table favorite and was only because of the sauce they drizzled on top of it. I don't think the quality reflects the prices. The dessert was good.
The restaurant has a warm pleasant feeling and the wait staff are friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The menu food and wine selections are very nice and reasonably priced. The portions are good sized However, several side dishes and an entree were not warm enough. We arrived after 6:15 and the noise level was very nice.

Friendly neighborhood spot. Nice patio seating. Good food: we enjoyed the mushroom pasta and short ribs. Although several local draft beers were listed on the menu, we were disappointed that none was available because the tap was broken.
Overall great experience. The food flavors and presentation were very good. Cocktails were interesting and very good. Service was great and staff friendly which is appreciated. We sat outside which was nice on a summer night not too hot. Indoors seemed a bit on louder side. Definitely would like to come back and try more items on the menu.
Wonderful cocktails and dinner. Excellent meat loaf. New Zealand beef tenderloin special was superb. The crab soup was full of flavor, and was thick and creamy without being starchy. Service was excellent despite the restaurant being very busy.
Tucked away in a quaint part of Charlottesville, The Local, is a must! It's charming with stain glass windows, brick walls and locally made furniture. The service is always quick and friendly regardless of how busy it is. The food! It's exceptional with Crispy Shrimp, Salmon, and a Brownie Sundae that will make you smile.
My wife and some friends (party of 8) are in The Local for the Monday night Open Mic. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Wait staff greeted us by name and were attentive and available. The nose level was what one would expect for a musical event and the crowd was typically responsive to the performers and quieted quickly when the music started.
