Jeremy did a great job of serving us in spite having a large party to deal with. One diner was gluten free and Jeremy helped sort through the options. Food was very good & cooked to order
We have been eating at The Local for many years on trips to Charlottesville. Always great service and good consistent food. This past Saturday food was mediocre with small portions. Could have been a bad night for the kitchen but did not live up to past standards. Restaurants are under great pressure and I would rather pay more and have a nice dining experience. Will return and chalk this up to an off night.
Our server Claudia was awesome. The cocktails, appetizers, entrees and dessert were delicious. To top all of this off, the cost was very reasonable. We eat out at least twice a week, and The Local certainly has been added to our rotation.
We started the meal with two dirty martinis that were absolutely perfect. My wife had the short ribs which is one of my favorites at the Local. I had the Surf and turf special featuring scallops and zucchini and it was very good. Michael our server was attentive without hovering. The Local is our 'go to' restaurant when we have visitors due to its consistently good food and service.
Such a great restaurant with local beer/wine/food. Price is super reasonable. We will be back very soon. We had the charcuterie, crab soup, goat cheese salad, and meatloaf. My only regret is being too full to get dessert. My only recommendation would be to have some jam with the charcuterie board but that's just a small detail.
Outstanding experience. One of the best dining values I've had in a long time for this high quality and creativity. Not a local, but we will be back at The Local again.
Took our son for his birthday dinner. The Local is a favorite. Our server, Jeremy, was wonderful, as was the food.
My wife and I were at the Local with friends for Open Mic night, which is a bonus in itself, and is easily the best show in town on a Monday night. The waiter was prompt, friendly, and attentive, and the food was excellent and moderately priced. The wine special was a plus. It was a memorable evening.
My daughter and I enjoyed a wonderful meal (prix fixe during Restaurant Week): a very warm, relaxed setting; imaginative and very fine food, all local (even the bison), as in the name; and gracious service (Ashley). I look forward very much to my next visit.
Our server was great. He was attentive and engaging - which we enjoyed very much. The food was great, but twice the runner from the kitchen brought one of us the wrong food. That needs a bit of retraining, I'd say. Other than that, we had an excellent time.

Our server was excellent. My first time here and we decided to do Restaurant week! It was such a wonderful meal and experience! I will definitely be back!
We had a great evening and really enjoyed our meal. Shout out to are serber Claudia who was brilliant
My wife and I had been here many times before and have always enjoyed it. It has been one of our go to restaurants in Charlottesville However, this time we felt both our dishes lacked the quality and flavor we were used to. Hopefully this is just a one off.
My husband and I just moved to Charlottesville and we’re excited to find a spot that looked like it had good ambiance and food with reasonable prices. We went in with a reservation, so we didn’t have to wait. Service was great with Patrick being our server. Ambiance upon entry was nice and cozy despite volume, but the upstairs part of the restaurant is a little generic with tables too close together.
My husband ordered the fried chicken with mac and cheese and collard greens - we both agreed this was a good order but the greens and mac could’ve been hotter (temperature wise) and the collards were on the higher end of a medium spice, if that’s something you’d care to know, but still tasty. I ordered the short rib with mashed potatoes and some carrots and onions - it came out almost room temp, but our server was very understanding and so nice and returned with a hotter plate. The food itself wasn’t bad, just could use a little more flavor. Everything was so tender!
Overall, kind service with slightly above average food and ambiance.
Food was fantastic. Great service.
Drinks were on the small side. Not worth $13-$15 each.
