The Monday open mic offers some of the best original music I've heard anywhere. Michael Clem is a master organizer and his band helps the musicians present their work in a tasteful, professional manner. The food is good and the staff is attentive and efficient, even in s packed house.
I sat outside and watched the neighborhood activity which was quite interesting. My waiter was attentive and helped me on food choices. The fried Brussels sprouts and cauliflower was excellent as was the Caesar Salad. The Salmon and Couscous was superb. The salmon was cooked perfectly, very moist and flaky with just the right seasoning. Highly recommend! Love these small neighborhood eateries.
I recently had the pleasure of working with Helen and the team at The Local for my wedding, and I couldn't be happier with the experience.
My husband and I used The Local for our September 2024 wedding and could not recommend their services enough. We ended up working with The Local for every aspect of the wedding, including cocktail hour, bar, day of coordination, and reception needs. The Local was actually a preferred vendor from our venue and I realized that my husband and I ate there a few years ago for a New Years trip, which made me all the more excited to reach out to them.
From the start, Helen was incredibly organized and attentive. She listened to my vision and brought it to life, ensuring every detail was perfect. Her expertise and calm demeanor made the planning process enjoyable rather than stressful.
From the weeks before the wedding to the actual day, Helen was on top of everything. I am not a huge planner myself, so her expertise was imperative. Not only is Helen a wonderful person and provides great energy to be around, but she has a plan for anything and everything. For example, the zipper track of my wedding dress broke in the middle of the reception, and before I could even blink, Helen was right behind me with a needle and thread saving the day. That is just one of the many things Helen did to ensure our day was perfect. If there was anyone in the world who could write a blueprint for being the perfect wedding coordinator, it would hands down be Helen.
The catering by The Local was outstanding. The food was not only delicious but beautifully presented. Our guests are still raving about the food from cocktail hour to the reception dinner. They also accommodated dietary restrictions seamlessly, which we really appreciated.
Overall, the combination of Helen’s planning skills and The Local’s culinary talents made our wedding day unforgettable. I highly recommend both for anyone looking to create a memorable event!
We are so glad we used The Local as our caterer for our wedding! We are also glad that we got to work with Helen exclusively. She guided us through the most stressful part of the wedding – the catering. We were a long-distance couple and she was so accommodating. She helped us create an excellent menu that our guests loved. We also had some specific guest dietary restrictions that she helped us navigate and execute. She was an excellent communicator throughout the entire process.
Our wedding day food was absolutely excellent. Each dish was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The service was impeccable. The day of catering team was incredibly professional, attentive, and friendly, ensuring that everything ran smoothly and that our guests were well taken care of. They were able to quickly pivot when we needed to move our ceremony indoors as well.
We couldn’t have asked for a better catering experience. If you’re looking for a caterer who delivers exquisite food, exceptional service, and a truly memorable dining experience, The Local is the way to go.
Our server was wonderful and the food was great! Zander, our server, was wonderful. The food came out promptly and tasted great. We had a wide variety of food and all of it was wonderful. My only complaint is when we checked and they told us basically we had an hour and 30 minutes to eat and then had to be out as they were booked all night. I did not think that was very welcoming. I understand it was a busy weekend, but there should've been a little, more flexibility with their reservations. We were out on time, but it was offputting.
Food is always quick and delicious, and the service is great too. My favorite is to come late on a Monday night, singer/songwriter night starts at 9 so an 8:30 reservation lets you order from the kitchen and then enjoy a wonderful vibe if you like live music.
We enjoyed our at The Local! The Meatloaf was outstanding, along with the Burrata Caprese Salad and the Brownie Sundae! Our waiter was attentive and helpful. I can't wait to go again very soon!
I have lived the Local. However the last couple times I've been in I e been a little disappointed. First off, I would order 5 bowls of the creamy crab soup! (Please don't switch to tomato based!) It is my favorite thing there along with the cauliflower/brussels sprouts apps. The last time I was there with family and friends and ordered a burger, medium. It was definitely on the rare side. I almost ordered again, but my husband ordered one medium well and he said it was also on rare side. The frites were good. Our friend whose birthday we were celebrating ordered the short ribs and said they were fantastic. I ended up with Caesar Salad which could have stood a bit more dressing and croutons were sparce. That was disappointing since I'm trying to watch intake, and it just lacked flavor. I should have requested dressing on side, but didn't. Bread or maybe a protein offering for additional cost would have been nice. My last thought is that those chairs at least on the first floor are the most uncomfortable chairs I've ever sat in at a restaurant. I found myself wondering how quickly we could finish and leave and I had to stand in between courses because my back was hurting so badly. I think barrel back chairs are much more comfortable than ladder back chairs, but that might be part of the point to keep people moving in and out. We thoroughly enjoyed our waiter and appreciated his input on what he'd recommend, etc. (I appreciated it, but I've found no one makes meat loaf like my mama did! So I just stick to my own/hers since everyone has an opinion on meat loaf it seems. ;-) ) Others were attentive in terms of water and clearing table. Everyone is friendly, which is always a plus in the hospitality business. Two-thirds of us were just a bit disappointed in our main dish/salad, but LOVED the crab soup!
We visited The Local upon its opening on a Sunday at 5pm. We dined outside where the street was quiet and the music at just the right volume to enjoy but not interfere with conversation. The meatloaf and tenderloin entrees were exceptional. We finished with peach cheesecake and a brownie sundae which perfectly completed our delicious meal. We were so excited to have found this restaurant and recommend it highly.
We used The Local for catering and coordinating our wedding and the food, service and organization were spot on! We got so many compliments about the food and they were very flexible with adjustments!

Really fun to dine at the The Local. The chef keeps great recipes and innovates; meaning the menu is very enjoyable. Great wine options and far deeper selections than most other C'ville restaurants.
Great experience. Lovely location in Belmont neighborhood. Nice historic building with a neat vibe. Wonderful service. Menu includes all favorite southern comfort foods. My meatloaf was perfect. Plate presentations were really good too. Highly recommended.
Excellent, delicious meal for my friend's birthday. Nice to sit outside on a night when it wasn't brutally hot--they have a pleasant outdoor space. The waiter was smart and fast and friendly. The food was delicious.
Arrived at our reservation and were sat immediately, even though I made a reservation for inside we were sat in the outdoor area. We went when it was quite busy so the service was slow to start but was good for the rest of our meal. Ordered the spicy old-fashioned which was watered down and the spice was overpowering, switched to the Cab Sav with my order of the short rib. Overall the dishes we ordered were underseasoned and underwhelming. Food came out quickly and the portion sizes were good. The fried chicken seemed to be the table favorite and was only because of the sauce they drizzled on top of it. I don't think the quality reflects the prices. The dessert was good.
The restaurant has a warm pleasant feeling and the wait staff are friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The menu food and wine selections are very nice and reasonably priced. The portions are good sized However, several side dishes and an entree were not warm enough. We arrived after 6:15 and the noise level was very nice.
