“Thrilled to have found this place while attending a training conference nearby. I am not ashamed to say I came here for lunch every day of the week The good: the atmosphere is as good as it gets for a pub. Quiet lunch stop, Friendly staff a traditional pub menu great whiskey selection and a gorgeous mirror backed ornate wood bar display. I swapped between both the Reuben and fish sandwich all week and highly recommend either. The bad: My major complaint is that this place is too far from my house but it may be good enough that I start looking for new apartments in the area. This is what it is to the maximum degree if you are in the mood for an Irish pub I don't think you can do better.“
“Our meal was some of the best pub food we've ever had. The curry is magical and with fries it is certainly an other worldly experience. To heck with Franks Red Hot, we want this curry to put on everything. Then there's the claddagh burger. It's like an Irish loco moco. Memories of this combination of perfectly cooked mash potatoes, expertly seared and seasoned burger with a simply decedent gravy is enough to make me salivate while writing this revue. To round this amazing meal into an exceptional experience was our server Maddie C. They were incredibly attentive and throughout the meal continued to make sure that we had everything we needed. We can't wait to come back.“
“In the area visiting and came across this place. Fantastic find. Food was good, pleasantly surprised to find they had a great selection of gluten free options. Great drink menu. Our server was wonderful. Overall great experience and would highly recommend.Dietary restrictions: Has good options for gluten free.“
“I arrived solo and somehow felt out of place. My drink was amazing. Ordered 12 wings with 2 different flavors but I couldn't tell if they were actually 2 different flavors because they tasted the same. Neither was the flavor I ordered. Then again, I'm from Memphis, TN home of south and flavor is a must. According to reviews I was excited to go but unfortunately it was not a friendly environment in my opinion. My drink was good though.“
“We hosted my husband's retirement social in the upstairs room. The staff was wonderful to work with both before and during the event. The food was delicious, the atmosphere cozy and fun, and staff was responsive to any and all requests. 10/10 would book another event with “
“McNamara’s is a delightful fusion of traditional Irish fare and modern twists that caters to all. Whether you're in the mood for classic fish and chips, hearty chili, or innovative pub grub, you'll find it here, bursting with flavor. For us it’s not just the food that makes stand out—it's the atmosphere. The welcoming ambiance that instantly puts you at ease. Whether you're grabbing a pint at the bar or settling in booth with friends, there's an undeniable sense of camaraderie and the pub's dedicated staff, including Jen, Ryan, Steven, John, and Stacy, who go above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels like a cherished regular. From their warm greetings to their attentive service, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in the door.In addition to the great food, warm atmosphere, and excellent customer service, McNamara’s also offers plenty of entertainment to keep the fun going late into the night. From sports games to live music sessions to trivia nights, there's always something happening guaranteeing a memorable night……Karisma & Tee“
“Went for St Patricks day, I know, but…. Packed place, $10 cash only cover, outdoor seating and music/entertainment. Wife was told no reservations allowed two weeks earlier, but inside seating by reservation only???Paid the cover and got indoor seating immediately. Cant hear outside music inside.Limited menu. I thought our server didn’t like brown town, but according to my wife, he didn’t like me.Whatever it was beer was cold, fish and chips were mediocre and under seasoned. Cole slaw. a bit heavy on the mayonnaise. Fries were decent.Overall experience on this crowded day was lower then expected. Indoor seating on a hot day was nice. Valet parking helps too.Oh yeah my first beer was served in a plastic cup in a dining room with white table cloths. I thought it strange. Didn’t take a pic of it.I doubt I’ll go back.“
“Fantastic Irish and restaurant. The setting was great for a date night or a night to watch NCAA basketball or in our case, both! We shared the goat cheese salad as a starter and the chocolate lava cake as a dessert with a delicious meal in between. In addition to the ambience, the server was exceptionally friendly, and made our experience all the better. Right in the heart of Shirlington and close to free parking in the parking garage.“
“Daniel O’Connell’s Irish Restaurant & Bar in Alexandria, VA, is my go-to pub when visiting the area. The authentic Irish pub atmosphere, complete with cozy interiors and traditional décor, sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The Irish fare served here is top-notch, with each dish reflecting the rich culinary heritage of Ireland. One standout dish is the Shepherd’s Pie, an absolute classic that embodies comfort and flavor. Made with hearty ingredients and served piping hot, it's a must-try for anyone visiting Alexandria. Moreover, the great service provided by the staff adds to the overall charm of the establishment. HUGE shoutout to the bartender, Paul, for his exceptional service and conversation. I highly recommend stopping by Daniel O’Connell’s next time you're in Alexandria—it's a shamrock that captures the essence of Ireland right in the heart of Virginia.“
“Nice dive bar up by the zoo! It's a very chill spot but has lots of seating (a very cute window spot) and is a great place to go watch sports or to go if you have a bigger group. They have cheap beer but also good draft options. We got a bucket of coors banquet for $16, and you get five of them so pretty killer deal. For sure a no frill place but our bartender was lovely and very attentive! Great spot to stop by if you're in the area or looking for a place to watch sports.“
“To say I love this place is an understatement. From the management to the bar and wait staff, everything is fantastic. I come here at least twice a week — with rugby, maybe more. I have not only never had a bad meal here, I’ve never had bad service or bad anything. I am so glad to have a place like this in my neighborhood! When I come here, I feel like family. Can’t ask for more than that.“
“I’ll be honest, this restaurant has never really interested me because its standard Irish fare feels overpriced for what it is. However, I came in for their Monday night “I Am a Sandwich” special from 5-9pm, which also happens at the same time as their game night. I ordered the AKA “AJ” Smash Burger. The old bay onions were not to my personal taste and I probably should have asked for them on the side, but the rest of the burger was fantastic! I don’t typically enjoy old bay, so I don’t think I was the target audience. The combination of crab dip, soft bread, crunchy lettuce, and flavorful burger was fantastic. I hope this pop up will stay long enough that I can come back to try another one of the options! My 4 star review reflects the fact that I’ve only had pop up food, so I can’t vouch for the overall quality of regular menu food.“
“I can’t brag enough about what an amazing experience my group had at this restaurant! Everyone’s food and drinks were fantastic and the Maria our server was absolutely amazing! Hands down the best fish and chips I’ve ever had and their carrot cake was insanely good.“
