“I went to this restaurant, The 77, back about seven years ago, on the day my dad had a heart attack. I had been friends with the small-town family owners—my kind of people. I think they get mixed up and serve people out of order but no eatery is scientifically precise with sequential ’order up.’ The owner is older now anyhow, but she’s a doll. I knew a server there years ago that I haven’t seen her since, but her kids I think go there with their teams. Everybody knows everybody in town so they don’t take kindly to strangers, especially if you’re trying to pay with a credit card. I embarrassed my wife with a visa on several occasions and that time my mom’s cousin Jenny took out her card, she said, “Electronic for the exact amount,” and the server looked at her…she wasn’t angry, but she wasn’t happy neither. I didn’t like that. But it was a Friday, seafood night and the fried guppies always turn my frown upside down and never turn my stomach. Only fish I can eat is at 77.
The atmosphere, the home cooking, the country love is so thick u can sink your milk teeth into it like the fresh biscuits the cook whips up on Sunday after church. I even saw the cook walking on campus. Like whaaa? I asked him about it, he said, “What’s the problem about walking on campus after work?” I couldn’t help myself y’all . I looked at him a little funny with my chin down and eyes up, like ’really’ and thought he might think I was looking at him like I was the weird one. But I wasn’t the one walking on campus although I might as well have been. I don’t even think he knew Kevin Kleeber or the other co-eds.
Kleeber n my family and I weren’t close. My family is generally unkind, but not so much with strangers. Speaking of strangers, Years ago, my family.. Papa specifically, before we was dining with the angles, (bless his heart), well papa ordered the country steak; we ordered the beans cooked in water; Dana ordered the ‘crawdady cottage cheese’ . I had the Hush Guppies of course cooked rare. Paying with a check was an option or so we presumed, but my check, written and signed with tip added was soppy… had something on it cause the table was sticky after dinner, naturally. The server said they wouldn’t accept because it was greasy. But turned out it wasn’t sauce, nor was it grease! it was a little bit of my homemade lotion, (which I am selling, by the way). the check actually wasn’t even my own check..I should have known better, #hindsight2020 lol. Guess whose check it was…locals know….freakin. Trevin. Pleaver’s. Mhmm, mark my word y’all.…how’d I get my paws on Trev’s paper yer wondering? Kinda an accident, kinda not ;) I’ll give you a hint. Campus ;) I know I’m the worst.”

“They have alpha gal safe fried chicken and it is delicious. Crispy and not crumbly. This is probably the best part of my 4rth of July two days early, which BTW, happy. 5 stars.”

“The panther grounds have some really good merch and a good bakery section. The employees are kind and helpful. The school merch is a little expensive, but it's worth it! I would come here again if you want to relax or get some quality merch. The facility is very clean and nice.”

“Stopped here to try their breakfast sandwich. The food was good. The place was packed. The thing that stood out the most to me was the way these employees handled the rush. They were on top of things and seemed to work well together. I watched as order after order went out the door and the employees still stayed cheerful.”

“The burritos are great. I just visited again and ordered enchiladas. I won't do that again. I watched him assemble the cold ingredients in the styrofoam tray and stick it in the microwave. I took it to go and ate at home, otherwise I would have given it back. It was not good. Will stick to burritos from now on.”

“SO happy we found this place! hometown and i think probably locally owned. the food was delicious and they had many vegetarian options! the pink sauce and cheese bread knot were my favs! very reasonably priced as well! they were very busy with a church rush but still the food came out fast, HOT, and accurate!”

“We went to the Ally Cat for drinks and dinner on Saturday. Cant say enough good things about our visit! Food was great (fried baloney sandwich and the dorito taco salad) and the beer selection was awesome! Jessica at the bar was awesome as well! Great vibes! We will be back!”

“Went through the drive-thru. Employees were friendly. But the shake machine was out of order. I really wanted to try the banana shake that was advertised everywhere on the building and signage. The food was okay. It was really salty. The fries, chicken, Cobb salad, grilled cheese and toast were all salty.”

“Let me tell ya about this place. They sell way more than gas. They sell locally grown produce, that's extremely reasonable and delicious. Local eggs are $.99 a dozen. Seriously super sweet cantaloupe, locally grown are $5.99. 4 different kinds of delicious locally grown heirloom tomatoes for $2.99 a pound. I got all of them and couldn't decide which I liked best. I could go on and on with positive things about this place. Trust me this place is to good to pass up.”

“Tiny little place off the side of the Blue Ridge Parkway. But the BBQ was excellent! Lean sliced pork combined with a real BBQ sauce (not the sweet syrupy stuff you find in the stores). Glad we found this place and will go back the next time we're over on the Parkway.”

“My wife and I drive 1.5 hrs after seeing on the news. I wish we lived closer, best atmosphere and the friendliness folks. Beer was cold, Pinto beans and cheese were delicious, I’ll be honest the hotdog was good however I wasn’t a fan of the chili. Did I mention the cheese was delicious? Even bought some to take home!
