El Zocalo has been a favorite restaurant destination for my family. I couldn’t even tell you the amount of times we have visited, haha! They have fantastic food and staff! This place is MUCH better than the big brand franchise options.

Was very good and I enjoyed eating the food very much. The beginning of service was excellent then as soon as they scanned my card and I went to settle the tip info they took my food away before I was even finished guacamole and the rest of my crema salad which I even had food on and was going to take my next bite when he took it and ran off. That is why service at the end sucked and I gave it 3 stars. Ask before you grab people I wasn't finished and I was only getting the bill ready before I forgot and they took the food. They assumed we were done and we weren't. I was so happy and then this happened and ruined my day. I would ask for my food back but they put my friends plate underneath it before they went to the back. All in all good place to eat but guard your plate once you pay until you are finished.

Great spot in historic Hanover Courthouse. Food was great and the selection is pretty vast. Definitely a step up from your normal Mexican place.

Wonderful local Mexican restaurant. My go-tos are the Birria Tacos if I'm feeling indulgent or any of the fajitas with an extra order or tortillas to take a portion home for lunch the next day. The guac is yummy too. Great quality food, not inexpensive, but worth the price and I'm grateful a restaurant at this location is pricing themselves in a sustainable way, I live close by and have a vested interest in their longevity!!Love practicing my Spanish with the wait staff too, they're so supportive and helpful and always provide great service in both languages.

This is by far the best Mexican food that I have tasted in Richmond. Their food never disappoints. Everything is freshly made and seasoned perfectly. You can easily drive by it as it's right off Route 301 and Patrick Henry Hwy in what looks like a little house. But don't be fooled. You won't be disappointed!

This place is fairly new to us and finally decided to give it a try. We got there right before dinner and the place was full, but there again it is most of the time. There was a large group of people waiting outside and they said they had not been there long and that you had to get a beeper so we did. I went inside and could smell the food and it smelt really good. We chose to sit outside because of my food allergies, I have Alpha Gal Syndrome. Our wait was only about 10 minutes. We were seated and the waiter came about pretty quickly with chips and salsa. I ordered a Medium Mezcal Margarita, the wife had a soft drink. I also ordered a side of guacamole to go along with the chips and salsa. The salsa was just spicy enough to satisfy the wife and had a Smokey flavor to it which I really liked. The wife ate most of it and she doesn’t do spicy that well. Waiter came by not long with drinks and took our order. I got a Chicken Chipotle Burrito with no cheese with a side of pickled jalapenos and the wife got the Chicken Taco Salad no onions. Food came pretty quick and was nice and hot and correct. My wife and I loved the taste of the chicken. I was surprised at the size of the burrito. I’m a pretty big guy and I had a hard time putting it all away. I actually should have taken half in a to go box. The waiter was tentative but not overly and I noticed that he was not writing any of the orders down as people were giving them. Over all we had a very nice dining experience. The only thing that I can say that was negative is the seats outside were right uncomfortable for a guy my size but the average person may not have an issue. We will be back. Fortunately this place is not far from home and I can pick up take out on the way home. If your in the area I suggest checking out this little hole in the wall.

Decided to stop and try El Zocalo after driving by the restaurant several times during multiple trips between Maryland and North Carolina. Every time we passed the restaurant it was always crowded. Well, we were very happy to finally make the stop. The restaurant has both outdoor and indoor seating, we chose to sit outside on a crisp fall evening. The staff were extremely nice and very efficient. The menu has a variety of Mexican dishes to include some interesting takes on fried rice. We had the shrimp/steak combo fajitas with corn tortillas and the chicken fajitas with flour tortillas. The portions were huge and the food was very good. The chips and homemade salsa were free and the fajitas came with beans and rice. It was a very good meal and we will return in the future.

One wouldn't expect to find such a wonderful Mexican restaurant in rural Hanover, but I'm here to say it's the best in RVA! When my son told me about El Zocalo, I was skeptical, due only to the location near Hanover Courthouse. I'm so glad he found this gem. We visited on a weeknight and didn't have to wait for a table. Service was prompt and professional, and the margarita was wonderful and tasted fresh. The food is beautifully prepared and so tasty. The seasoned beef and chicken is tender and authentic. I can't wait to go back!
