An amazing hide-away in the country without traffic and lots of people! 5-star dining at its finest at a family owned establishment!

Not worth $500 a pair. Individual plates were good but not great and they didn’t flow well. Wine pairing was just bad. And a wine glass-pour of Sambuca and fishbowl of drip coffee… no.

I went here on accident. I was looking for an event. These guys bent over backwards to help me out and get me to the place I was looking for. Being from way out of town I'm sorry I didn't have more time to stay. I love the concept and the grounds are impeccable. Food smelled wonderful and the hospitality is top notch.

We just stayed three nights at Glen Gordon Manor and dined each night in this restaurant. Dinner is a fixed-price, five-course menu that changes nightly. Each course (salad, soup, appetizer, entree, and dessert) brings new surprises. We enjoyed all of them. We opted for the paired wines, which introduced us to several European varietals we hadn't seen before. (A full bar, including a wide selection of bourbons, is available for a drink before dinner.) There are dining tables located in several of the public rooms in the manor, and we sat in a different room each night. These spaces are quiet, sophisticated, and intimate. It's hard to imagine a more romantic setting. The single seating begins at 7:00 pm. Courses are nicely paced. Service is friendly and efficient. The sample menus on the website indicate the wide variety of dishes and cuisines. Though there were no choices, but we enjoyed everything we were served.

The restaurant itself is stunning; and might have some fun, unexpected views. You are seated at 7pm, and the table is yours, which is surprisingly relaxing. Five course Chef's tasting menu, outstanding. The wine pairings are a perfect fit, tilts toward French and if you don't want five glasses of wine, they do half servings. The service is impeccable and knowledgeable. I ordered their Brown Butter Old Fashioned. I think this might have been one of the best cocktails I have ever had. Right up there with the late great Restaurant Eve's cocktails. Would I go back, in heartbeat! Although I would have to extend our stay at The Mount Vernon Inn, because the Sperryville, little Washington, Huntly area is a true food lover's paradise. The final surprise, this is a very reasonably priced experience, especially compared to some of the insane DC and Richmond restaurants.

Cannot say enough about this place. This area has great restaurants including a 3 Michelin star restaurant which gets a lot of attention. But Houndstooth (food, ambience, service) dwarves every single bit of acclaim as the very best it’s around. Truly amazing. You can’t and won’t be disappointed. Worth it. Will return and literally cannot say enough positive to describe the experience. A MUST go.

We were reminded by a recent visit that, as nice as its accommodations are, Glen Gordon Manor is first and foremost a world-class dining destination. Dinner is presented as a fixed, 5-course nightly menu, with no choices (other than pre-arranged accommodation of dietary restrictions). If that sounds overly retrictive (e.g., if you're a somewhat unadventuresome eater), fear not. The chef is a master at taking any main ingredient and transforming it into something special with his creative techniques and recipes. For example, our third course was Grilled Spanish Octopus, something neither my wife nor I had eaten before, and would have been unlikely to order from an ala carte menu. It was presented as three separate servings, each with a small piece of octopus at its center and surrounded, respectively, by a chimichurri sauce, a potato fondant (a French sidedish), and a mixture featuring tiny strips of chorizo. It was delectable. The other four courses were equally enticing, each featuring a main ingredient beautfully augmented by flavor enhancers. According to our delightful server, several of the dishes were recent additions to the rotating set of recipes used for the nightly menus, reflecting that the chef does not rest on his laurels. We highly recommend the wine pairings, which are beautifully chosen and perfectly sized to coincide with the delivery of new courses.

Fabulous food. Wonderful service . This is a Michelin star event. Much less expensive that the Inn at Little Washington and the food is just as special. Service is perfect. The wine pairings are delicious -- mainly French. So special. We just returned from France and this was better than any restaurant we went to there. Amazing. Congratulations to Chef Dane. Lovely beet salad, carrot and ginger soup, grilled octopus, great beef main course and lovely imaginative dessert. What a creative menu.

Charming manor in the country. My wife and I were celebrating our 15th and I've been to the ILW several times and great, wanted to try something new and different. I was pleasantly surprised by the Houndstooth. We booked a 7pm reservation on Toc and mentioned some food allergies and items we liked and they created a beautiful menu. See attached. Our first course was an asparagus salad with grapefruit that really had much more flavor than I was expecting, paired perfectly with a Muscadet. The second course was a chilled split pea soup with orzo and Lobster. My wife does not like Split Pea and the only place she has ever liked it was at ILW, this was great especially paired with the Ryan Patrick Chardonnay. The wine was dry not oaky and loved it. The third course was a bass and shrimp lightly fried on risotto with Serrano peppers that was delicious. My favorite wine of the evening was the Portuguese Mapreco. I had a second glass. Mind you I'm an Italian Red fan and these were all whites up to this point, loved each one. The chef took him time pairing these. My favorite course was a Brioche wrapped Beef Wellington, Ramsay would be proud. So good! Black truffle purée with a Bordeaux ended the savory menu perfectly. What was very nice was that you got an ample pour vs a tasting pour. Our dessert was a sample of items. Playing and presentation matters to this chef. Chef Dane then spoke to us for a good 10 minutes telling us his story and background. It's very personal for him and you can tell the passion and love he puts into his cooking to delight his guests. I highly recommend everyone coming out to this beautiful property. I would, however, next time stay the night at the Glen Gordon Manor bit more of a drive than I wanted after dinner. The manor is south of Front Royal on 522 and is gorgeous, quiet and you definitely feel like you can relax and enjoy yourself.
