You’d never guess it but this is the best Thai food in the dmv. The offerings are really quite different than your standard Thai fair and all of them are outstanding. The Fired chicken with herbs, Yum Kai Zapp, is incredible and I’ve never seen it anywhere else. If they have the special coconut crab curry it’s a must get, one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Esaan is our go to restaurant for authentic, Northern Thai flavors. Almost everything we have tried on the menu has been a hit. This place serves one of our favorite papaya salads made with fermented fish sauce which makes for a funky, deeply savory flavor that pairs well with the tangy flavors of unripe papaya and lime juice. I first discovered this place over ten years ago and have been going out of my way to come eat here any time I travel to the DC area.

The fried chicken and steak plates are amazing! Best thing ever! Taste and flavor has been consistent throughout the years. The spice adds just the right amount of umph to the plate.

I also recommend the fried pork belly and pork fried rice.
