I moved to Churchland from Virginia Beach and decided to bring my family to somewhere close to where I now live and let me tell you. It exceeded my expectations. The service is amazing, the atmosphere is calming and the food is some of the best I've had in years. If you ever come by here, I highly recommend their hush puppies as the appetizer; some of the best I've honestly ever had. All of their menu items are amazing and don't seize to amaze on not just quantity but quality. This place deserves more than 5 stars if I could rate it.

Very friendly and attentive staff - the food was prepared very well. Particularly the fried chicken, fried flounder, fried whiting, sweet potato casserole, Mac and cheese and potato salad. Green beans and collards were a little over cooked for my liking and more sweet than your typical southern vegetable. The only point of criticism would be the wait time for food to come. They mentioned it varied and were very attentive during the period where the food was being prepared. Don’t come too hungry!Kid-friendliness: They provide kids with a nice kid’s menu to include a cross word puzzle and tic-tac-toe boards. Served with crayons!

Today my family dined at this restaurant after Church service. I must say that we absolutely loved this restaurant. The servers were very friendly and eager to help you in any way possible and answer any and every question you may have. Although we dined after the breakfast hours, because we had small children and were very close to the time, they still accommodated us and allowed us to get the pancakes for the children, which was awesome when dealing with picky eaters that are 2,3, and 8 years old. The adults ordered the crab cake sandwich with sweet potato fries, the wings with baked beans and potato salad, and the shrimp and grits. Let me tell you, delicious, delicious, delicious!!!!! This food was hot and fresh and you could tell the home cooking and love that went into the preparation . After eating, we also ordered some of the bakery items, which we are currently eating as we ride home. The cupcakes and carrot cake are absolutely delicious. This was our first visit to this establishment but it will certainly not be our last. An excellent restaurant and I would definitely recommend you dine here. You won’t be disappointed!!!Kid-friendliness: This restaurant had high chairs and booster seats for the children. They also had a kid menu with their food choices as well as coloring and other activities on the page to keep them busy, like tic tax toe.

The automatic 20% gratuity is a terrible idea.

The music is much too loud and they would not turn it down. They automatically change a 20% tip and the service definitely did not live up to that high of a tip. Some of the food was cold and the syrup container leaked. The food was as only average and I will not come back. Unsatisfied customer ???

First time here, picked up an order to go because we were working. Walked in and was surprised by how nice the restaurant is furnished and it was very busy. Our sandwiches were excellent, can't wait to go back!

We live in Portsmouth and only recently discovered this place thanks to Instagram. It's off the main road behind the Planet Fitnees in Churchland. The restaurant has a modest decor with plenty of seating of booths and chair. There are 3 tables with high seating near the TV screens. We were seated and served quickly on Sunday around 10am. We wanted breakfast which ends at 11am. I ordered the pancake platter with egg whites, turkey bacon and cheddar grits. My boyfriend ordered French toast with bacon, eggs , and home fries. The food was quick and fresh. The pancakes (2) were huge. They seem to be made from cornmeal batter. They were good but I prefer a more crepe like pancakes. The grits, eggs, and turkey bacon were enough to fill me up. My boyfriend loved his food. I tasted his French toast and homefries. I will definitely get those next time. Overall we enjoyed our food and customer service was great. We can't wait to come back and try lunch.

My family absolutely loves this place. The food is always excellent and the family that owns it are great, friendly people. Try to get back there as often as we can. Chicken and waffles are my go to when I can't decide. Try them out, you won't regret it. We have to support great locally owned places like Gardner Wilz.
