The Barrel II Reviews
We have gone there maybe 20 times total and always order the same thing to drink, bourbon and Diet Coke in a tall glass. (One shot) tonight my husband had 5 drinks and I had 1 and a pizza and fries. Our bill was $76. The bartender said she had made us doubles. This is the second time this has happened. We order tall glasses to dilute the bourbon taste. The drinks were not strong at all. If she was filling the drinks with doubles, then they’re watering down their alcohol. 10...read full review

The Barrel II is a hidden gem in Portsmouth, a friendly neighborhood spot that caters to a thirty and up crowd. The regulars are welcoming, the owner is friendly, and the atmosphere is friendly and inviting. The service is great, with attentive staff like Lisa who provide a wonderful experience. The food is good, with delicious cabbage & corned beef that almost licked the plate clean, excellent food specials like Taco Tuesday tacos, wings and fries, and a chicken fried steak special for around $10. They have a full menu, several draft and bottle options, and a well stocked bar. There is some sort of entertainment every night, including a performer who sang and played acoustic guitar, an Irish trio who played terrific songs, live music from Lucky 757 who are the real deal, and karaoke nights. The food comes out quickly and is better than most other dive bars in the area. The Barrel II is a dive bar, and the conversation can be political, but that shows how friendly the bar is.
