Really cute place but terrible food. I got the Catalina pasta and it was bizarre. Based on the description, whi h didn't even mention garlic actually, I assumed it would be a simple pasta tossed in a classic white wine sauce with tomatoes and olive oil and probably garlic but what I got was a plate of pasta in a pool of just pasta water, no wine, no olive oil, just pure pasta water, no sauce, then the pile of plain noodles was topped with roasted garlic, which is a whole other flavor profile and should be mentioned, basil, 6 pieces of tomato and some basil leaves plus some very dry chicken. I asked for shaved parm instead of motz and recieved what seemed like stale grated parm. This was a meal similar to sonething a child might prepare. I was shocked that I received pasta in water without any sauce even tossed in, you can't get less authentic than that. Actually a baffling experience. Our server was very nice,I i took the pasta home and prepared it properly but this is definitely not a place worth giving a shot to. It's a Shane bc it's a lovely ambiance but the food is just terrible.

We were here for team dinner. We ordered pear stuffed ravioli, pesto pasta and Mediterranean pizza for main course and zucchini fries, roasted aubergine for appetizer. Almost all of us loved their unique take on pear stuffed ravioli. The vibe was great and the staff was kind enough to click a picture of all of us at the end and arranging table for 10. Their Sicilian mule was also nice. Will revisit with other friends and family and introduce them to this wonderful place.

Consistency - would like refresh on some dishes, quality of chicken hidden in sauces, ‘cleaner-lighter’ marinara (ie Carbone)….love wait staff and bar, dining room!

Some things haven't changed, some things should. Christine however is the quintessential intuitive server & the Montepulciano by the glass is excellent.

Azzurro is a reliable favorite with outstanding service and a menu with many delicious options. We started with the Margherita pizza and then enjoyed the Caesar salad with grilled Shrimp and the Orecchietti with sausage and broccoli. Very satisfying meal!

We went to Azzurro for my 70th birthday dinner. There were 7 of us. We had a lovely round table where we could see and speak to each other. Drink orders were taken and arrived within minutes. We ordered our food, and then my husband had a problem with his insulin pump, so my son had to drive him home. Our waiter was more than accommodating, making sure food would be either heated or packed up for my husband, who did not return. My son's beer got warm while he was gone, so the waiter gave him a fresh glass upon his return. The food was excellent. Everyone chose something different and we all loved our meals. Except for my husband having to leave us, we had a wonderful dinner.

Excellent dining experience! We went to Azzuro's to celebrate my son's birthday and then to see a play downtown. Britney was our server. She explained the menu options, delivered wine, salads, entrees and dessert efficiently. Everything was well prepared, and we were able to get to the play with time to spare.

Has an old world Italian feel. Definitely a niche style restaurant, which caters to a specific demographic. Came for my birthday dinner with my family last year, and we were well taken care of but felt slightly out of place. Nevertheless the food was good, everyone enjoyed their meal and we enjoyed our time

Pasta was good but I found a piece of plastic in my salad Told the waitress of course she took it off my bill and gave me a free desert, which was the least they could've done. A manager never came to the table to even check on my party after reporting the plastic in my ceasar salad. What if I would've choked or even a child? All they said was “sorry” in a nutshell. It was not the waitresses fault. Clearly. It was a kitchen issue. However, I just don't think their response to plastic in my food was taken serious enough.

Service was a little slow but our server was very nice. It would be nice if the hostess poured you water upon seating vs giving you a carafe to do so. Fresh bread was very tasty and all of our food was good. Pasta was fresh and sauces were good.

Maybe they were having an off day?...The Good: fried calamari was tender and perfectly cooked. Bread was pretty decent too.The Bad:chicken marsala was overcooked, bland, and incorrectly prepared (tasted like their marinara sauce with a splash of marsala - not a traditional marsala sauce). It was served with a fried potato and plain unseasoned steamed spinach.Risotto was undercooked - texture was closer to a fried rice. Lacked creaminess and richness.Service was ok. Atmosphere was fine. Less than 1/2 full at 7pm. Was loud.

Overpriced and Dissapointing The Good: fried calamari was tender and perfectly cooked. The Bad: chicken marsala ($35) was overcooked, bland, and incorrectly prepared (tasted like their marinara sauce with a splash of marsala - not a traditional marsala sauce). It was served with a fried potato and plain unseasoned steamed spinach. It was all just odd... Risotto ($36) was undercooked - texture was closer to fried rice. Lacked creaminess and richness. Service was meh ***I dont normally write reviews, but felt it was necessary. The quality of these two dishes was something you'd expect from a highschool cafeteria. They should be embarassed.

They made our experience so special! From the moment we arrived with birthday confetti on the table to the tiramisu dessert, everything was perfect! Outstanding service and exceptional cuisine. Wonderful!

Quaint and cozy spot for upscale Italian. Service was nice, but not overdone. The Mozarella Caprese salad was not traditional as I hoped, and had too much Italian seasoning. However, our entrees were delectable and I would highly recommend the Bucatini Carbonara. Great option for traditional Italian in the area.

It was very good! Not as many gluten free options that I had hoped for but did have the linguine pescatore , that was very good. Great service too! A definite go to restaurant in RVA
