This cafe feels like the type of place where you can sit alone without feeling awkward. I came in around 4 PM with headphones and a book, and nobody bothered me even though I stayed quite a while. The hazelnut latte was smooth and not burnt tasting like some coffee shops nearby. I also liked that they kept the music at a normal volume. The only small issue was one chair near my table being shaky, but a staff member swapped it out after noticing me adjusting it repeatedly. Thoughtful...
I had never been in here before because I despise downtown parking but went in as a last resort for coffee and I have never felt so welcome in a coffee shop! The person working was super kind and brightened what was kind of a crappy day by calling me bestie and happily explaining the difference between a flash brew and cold brew (I know nothing haha). Also they were playing AFI at a perfect volume whereas some coffee shops music is like blaring. Alchemy is stunning!!!!! As well...
Best coffee shop in all of Virginia. The vibe, employees, and most of all the flat whites. 8oz perfection. So good I went again the next day. Will be back for more on my next trip to Richmond.
