“This was my second trip to the Lafayette Inn & Restaurant in Stanardsville. The first time was because I was roadtripping and ended up being so tired while on a roadtrip for work that I had to find a place to stay, and the second time was purposefully going out of my way to stay there again for two nights. I recommend this historic inn to everyone. The owners are welcoming. The place is so cozy and beautiful. I feel at home when I visit the Lafayette.“

“I did takeaway, but the atmosphere seemed good from the few moments I spent there. Service was great, friendly and efficient staff. The food was good, except the fries which were pale, stale and really unexceptional overall. Corn fritters were awesome, BLT was good too.“

Early Mountain Vineyards Wineries • $$
6109 Wolftown-Hood Rd, Madison - 7.99 miles

“Had an amazing experience at Early Mountain Vineyards — definitely a winery worth making a special trip for in Virginia. The wine, food, and service were all outstanding, and the level of hospitality honestly reminded me of dining in Japan: attentive, warm, and very detail-oriented.

The winery itself is beautiful and located near Shenandoah National Park, with a relaxing atmosphere and gorgeous scenery. I can absolutely understand why many people consider it one of the most beautiful wineries in Virginia.

The fish & chips completely surprised me. The outside was perfectly crisp while the fish inside stayed incredibly tender. The biggest surprise was the potato cake paired with caviar — it sounded unusual at first, but the combination worked amazingly well, especially with the sauce tying everything together.

Dessert was also memorable. The lemon flavor was bright and intensely refreshing — the first bite almost “woke me up,” but somehow it became more enjoyable with every bite.

I’ve also heard their soft-shell crab and steak are fantastic, but I was already too full to try more this time. Definitely saving those for my next visit. Overall, this was such a relaxing and unexpectedly impressive dining experience.“
