If you understand sushi, then you know it’s all about the rice and Chef Feng uses some of the best - Tamanishiki rice. That plus a wide selection of quality fish at a good price point, makes Sapporo East my favorite sushi spot in Hampton Roads. Otoro, Uni, A5 Wagyu, Aji, Madai, Botan Ebi. For reference my favorite spot was Kyushu until Ebi sold it. I’m more of a traditionalist - nigiri and maki, but Sapporo East has great chef special rolls too. Their sushi rice is legit!
We've been loyal patrons of Sapporo East for over two decades, and it continues to impress every time. The seafood is consistently top-notch—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The service is always attentive and welcoming, making each visit feel like coming home. It's truly heartening to see a small, family-run business thrive while maintaining such high standards. A gem in the community that deserves every bit of praise.
Super fresh fish, unique rolls, great service, always has Toro in house, don’t even get me started on the Otoro, 10/10 quality I haven’t had Toro of that quality from here to DC once. A hidden gem, must try.
