About Back Country Cafe

Back Country Cafe is a popular breakfast and lunch spot near Killington ski area, known for its good food that draws in crowds. It serves eggs and coffee, making it a great choice if a hotel does not offer breakfast. The experience may begin slowly due to possible hosting issues, but once guests are seated, the food is decently timed and well-cooked. The staff, including busboys, is nice and capable, although some operational challenges may arise. The cafe offers vegetarian options, but it may not be the best fit for vegans or those with many dietary restrictions. It is kid-friendly, but not ideal for infants. Despite potential wait times when busy, the excellent food and service make it worth the visit. Recent customers have praised the cafe for its great food, price, and service, with specific mention of the excellent home fries and the attention given to dietary needs, such as ensuring no cross-contamination for those with celiac disease. Many recommend trying the specials and consider it a must-stop for breakfast in the area.

Mediocre food, most of which was overdone. Potatoes were cooked so long most of the small pieces were almost black. Toast was well done to the point of being just shy of burnt. They redid it but by the time I got it, the eggs were cold. Waiter didn’t follow my instructions about giving me extra butter on the side either. Toast was heavily buttered which is fine but I put butter on other things. Left unsatisfied.

We were in the Vermont area for the weekend.
I have celiac disease so we searched the internet for places to eat. I’m so glad we stopped in. Our waitress was absolutely fabulous and double checked to make sure there was zero cross contamination. They used separate utensils, pans and even a dedicated toaster. Would highly recommend! Hopefully we will be in the area to visit again!

This was, by far, one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. Maybe it was just an off day for the staff, but the service and food were awful.
