Why are you serving me processed, frozen halibut, priced as if it was fresh?I won’t be back.

Terrible!Hour wait, 45 minutes wait for any type of liquid.FYI: Alcohol beverages that are served, beer and wine.Along with regular sodas. If you want food, lol, it's not happening anytime soon.

I bet the food would have been good, but the service was some of the worse I’ve experienced. Waited an hour to get seated, when we did get seated we were ignored and not even acknowledged for 15 minutes, and it didn’t seem like we were going to be. They had two people working the front, and they were totally overwhelmed. We ended up walking out.

Absolutely yes, the place to go in Coupeville for good vibes and good food. A few tables have views over Penn Cove. I enjoyed succulent mussels one night and then tasty fish and chips the following evening. Nice beer and wine selection, and no hard liquor which keeps the place mellow and pub-like.

I went due to the raving reviews of the mussels but was very disappointed. My mussels came steamed in white wine, which isn’t out of the norm for mussels. The top third was okay but lacked flavor, until we got lower into the bowl. The bottom half of my mussel order was completely submerged and swimming in hot white wine that wasn’t boiled off properly or completely so the rest of the mussels tasted like pure alcohol and was inedible. It’s unfortunate as there was a large majority of the mussels left that we couldn’t really eat due to the very strong alcohol flavor.

Eaten here a few times, the burgers are usually pretty good. The cookies in their jar on the counter are SO good. And the garlic bread! Yum!

Toby’s is clearly a victim of it’s own success. It’s a small town funky bar stuck in a tourist location. There is no way the kitchen or the limited wait staff can keep up with the constant flow of foot traffic eager to kick back with the locals and eat authentic waterfront food.As a result, I waited over half an hour for a take out order of one item, fish tacos, which was advertised on the chalkboard out front. When it was finally ready, the waitperson put 3 boxes on the counter. I asked for a bag. No we don’t have bags. No utensils, napkins, just food in styrofoam boxes.Note that I don’t blame the staff for this situation (unless they are also the owners.) It’s just poor management. I’ll be back next winter if they are still open.

The BEST fresh Penn Cove steamed mussels in a delicious white wine sauce. The Ling cod fish and chips is a huge winner showing up with no signs of oil.The chowder gets high marks as well.Gorgeous views of Penn Cove.Full of charm , great service, during high season Toby's is so popular, long lines form outside to get a table.Love, love, love Toby's.You will not be disappointed.Parking: All depends on the season and time you show up.More parking on other streets.

Came in for a beer because everyone (including my AirBnB host) recommended Toby's. I love the small bar / local clientele style of Toby's. Everyone was very nice and I spoke to a few of the locals about the bar and their favorite things to do in the area.I'm giving 4/5 only because it took so long to get acknowledged so that I could order my beer. (One of the people sitting next to me had to flag them down). A couple of tables who had sat after me had their drink orders taken before me. Maybe I blended into the people who were already at the bar. The two women working front of house really just seemed like they needed an extra set of hands. I would definitely come back on another day to try it again and to try some food because it smelled absolutely delicious!

To start, when we walked in, we waited ten minutes at the front door to seated, without being greeted by any of the six staff members that were continually passing by. Eventually, we were told we could be put on a list to get any seating that opened up, and that we could wait outside on the bench and they would just come out and let us know. During the passing 30 minutes, one group that came to wait after walked in and apparently was able to sit down. We learned this after walking and a seeing them seated, along with discovering multiple seats had actually opened up. It was clear that no one had intention of informing us. Finally getting seats, we waited another 15 minutes while once again we were not greeted or in any way acknowledged. Finally, when we got up to leave a staff member finally approached us, and asked if we had "found as seat". This older staff member was the one that was supposed to inform us about any the open seats. We explained that we could not wait any longer, as it had already been a hour of waiting put together. Not surprisingly, no apology of form of response was made. The food was and service was horrible the other time we came too. Do not see this place staying open much longer and it is appalling how rude staff could be, given that it was completely unprompted.

The town wonders why locals can’t “shop and eat local” it’s because the service is so unreliable!

We were there during the mussel fest and it was packed. There was a wait to get seated but once seated the service and food were great. Fun place.

They did not debeard the mussels. I mentioned it to someone and he gave me the run around claiming that the mussel farm has a machine that does it, and it must still be broken.I have worked in kitchens for 10 years, where i have been ordering mussels from Penn Cove. You clean and debeard your own mussels. There is simply no excuse for this. I had to reach into the shell and do it myself before eating. Gross.
