kamakura japanese cuisine Reviews
I moved to Olympia in 2022 and began looking for good restaurants. After going to 4 Japanese I hit on Kamakura and have been returning there at least 1X/week. Great rolls, rice is perfectly executed, the Drunken Noodles with shrimp are AMAZING(every time). The staff is so kind and accommodating (makes me feel relaxed) The only thing I feel want for is more seaweed in the miso soup. This restaurant reflects everything with a touch of Japanese family tradition. The prices are fairly...read full review

Kamakura Japanese Cuisine is a charming restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience. The restaurant prides itself on using fresh ingredients, which is evident in its delicious and expertly crafted sushi rolls. Notable favorites among customers include the White Tiger, Vegan California Roll, Avocado Bomb, boss roll, seared salmon roll, and the geisha roll with spicy tuna. While some reviewers have mentioned that the sushi rice may not always meet expectations, the friendly service and creative sashimi creations make up for any minor flaws. The restaurant is known for its vegetarian options and has a completely vegan menu with a good variety, including a dozen or so complex vegan rolls. Kamakura is a great spot for lunch or dinner and is a must-visit for sushi enthusiasts. The restaurant is currently expanding, which may help with parking, as there is limited space in front but more in the back, along with handicap parking and wheelchair accessibility. Families will find the staff accommodating, as they kindly provide plasticware for kids and are understanding when parents need to step outside with small children.
Recent reviews highlight the friendly and patient staff, even when guests struggle with pronunciation of dish names. The portions are generous, and the sushi is good, though not the absolute best. One customer praised the Death by Crunch roll, calling it perfection—crispy, savory, creamy, and flavorful, with wasabi and pickled ginger included. Another reviewer enjoyed the Hakata Yaki-Udon, noting the spice level was good but the seafood portion was small, and the Japanese curry lacked spice. Overall, many find Kamakura to be a reliable and enjoyable spot for both dine-in and takeout, especially for those seeking tasty sushi and friendly service.
