I stopped by The Boat after spotting it in the Seattle Stranger. It’s a Vietnamese restaurant, although the fried chicken seems to have taken a vacation to Seoul. The crust is thick with cornstarch and shatters nicely, and the meat inside is sweet and soft. A little more seasoning wouldn’t hurt, unless “mildly polite” is the flavor they were going for. Don’t let the unassuming exterior fool you. Altho the menu is limited, this food is fantastic. The base is a delish half game hen graced with a crispy topping with just the right mix of sweet/savory garlic. Then you choose your sides: turmeric rice, broth, or noodles with a curiously good sauce reminiscent of Thai peanut sauce, but more subtle. Also on offer is a cool drink menu (mock- and cocktails) featuring flavors of lime, tamarind, pineapple and Vietnamese coffee.
