I ventured to Columbia City to the Royal Room, a small intimate venue for dinner and concert. I ordered the Signing Bowl of black beans, dirty rice, collard greens, picked cabbage, and avocado. The bowl was excellent with its mixture of tastes and textures. I also ordered the Yam Chips, deep fried yam slices like potato chips. They were good. The service was fabulous as was the music.
Cool little place for Jazz. Food was ok, not big servings, just enough to satisfy your hunger.
If you're going to watch and listen to jazz I suggest sitting in the smaller middle tables or at the bar. If you're there just to listen and don't care about watching, the back corner is for that. When they allow people in for standing room only, they will stand in front of where you sit especially if you're in the back corner so you can't...

We went for a Charlie Brown Christmas performance to support SHMP and the pianists were awesome. The service was top notch. The food was edible but nothing exciting. We tried the sliders, the chili soup and the apple cider donut cake. The cake was the best.
