This was hands down the best nigiri and kaiseki I've had, even compared to the high end sushi restaurants in Japan it's that good.Dining here feels like I was back in Japan eating sushi at the sushi bars, the table, layout, and size are all the same. And the fish was amazing. Some of my highlights were the smoked fish, smoked krab rice, fatty tuna, and the wagyu beef teriyaki was delicious, very Seattle. It is on the expensive side and hard to get but well worth it if you want some of the best fish in your life.Parking: Hard to find parking on cap hill so bus, train, or Uber if possible.

Taneda restaurant is overhyped. The food in general is very good and the service is certainly phenomenal. However, for the price ($350/person), you need to begin judging the restaurant at a higher standard. Certain courses missed the mark on flavor and creativity. Having tried several other top tier omakase places around Seattle and the rest of the country, I didn’t leave Taneda with any memorable impressions. If this is your first encounter with high-end sushi/kaiseki, yes you’ll be blown away. However, compared to its peers, Taneda is, in my opinion, overpriced.

Terrible booking system with a bunch of bots. You will need to write scripts to get reservations.

First off, I just want to say that I know Taneda-san personally, in that my husband worked with him sixteen years ago at a sushi restaurant. When we decided to visit Seattle (we no longer live there) for Thanksgiving break, we really wanted to try out Taneda-san's new restaurant. We read online that reservations seemed really hard to get, so we set up an official Tock account and entered all our credit card information in advance. When the reservations opened up, we immediately logged in to Tock and tried to get a reservation. We were happily surprised when we snagged a reservation for when we'd be in town!We are not bots, and we did not get any preferential treatment when making a reservation. I guess we just got supremely lucky to get a reservation on our first try! I say this not to rub it in anyone's face who has been trying for many times, but perhaps as encouragement that it's not impossible to get a reservation.Taneda-san and his staff offer a welcoming dining experience from beginning to end. Omakase can be an intimidating experience, but Taneda-san is open to answering any questions about ingredients. He takes time to describe how each dish was prepared and how seasonality was taken into consideration. One of the highlights of the meal was tasting ingredients I've never had before. Our evening at Taneda is one we'll never forget.

We first went to Taneda the day they opened, which was Valentine's day a few years back. Then a few more times, mostly from the waiting list, For the past close to 2 years I have found it impossible to get a spot there, even trying in the first minute after new reservations open. My guess is that there is some kind of AI-assisted scam with reservations going on (with no involvement of the owners!!) which is the cause of this.

Taneda's been on my radar for the longest time. Somehow, this place is exceptionally hard to book (on Tock) compared to other great omakase spots in Seattle, so it took some planning and agility+good luck to get a table. The spot has lots of character, for sure, but might not be to everyone's liking - it is smack in the middle of Capitol Hill, with all its je-ne-sais-quoi aspects (aka I would not have felt comfortable walking from the dinner to the parking alone in this area after dark). The staff and the chefs are most welcoming. The food was great overall, although both my dining partner and I found a few of the flavor combinations to be too creative for their own good and lacking a bit of balance. I really appreciated the creative plating though. And the overall experience was very pleasant for me. All in all, this place sits in the top 5 omakase spots for Seattle, with Suzuki, Ltd Edition Sushi and Sushi by Scratch as a somewhat more preferred alternatives for me from effort to book/$$$$ to experience ratio.

Worthy of having their own Michelin star in my opinion. My fiancé and I managed to snag a reservation and it was our best meal ever that blew away all of the other omakase and sushi restaurants we have ever been, including a few other Michelin rated restaurants we had before in Southern California. The service was impeccable, great sake pairing options catered to your taste (if you decide to go with the sake pairing), and Chef Taneda is very personable, really gets to know you and very humble to talk about his craft and life experiences! They have a rotating omakase menu that is dependent on what is in season for the ingredients they select to serve. Some omakase places I have been to have left me still hungry afterwards, but this place we were all so full after with the amount of rounds they serve! Make sure to have fast internet when you try to reserve a spot, and thankfully they try to block out any bots using Tock! The price may look a little steep, but it is very well worth the overall experience and service.

Staff are friendly and welcoming and the space, albeit small, is inviting. The restaurant is at the end of an alley and not easy to find. The menu is a combination of sushi omakase and a kaiseki meal. Overall it was a nice dinner, although some seafood combinations did not work for me. For example, in one dish the uni masked the flavor of the prawn, in another the monkfish liver completely overpowered the delicate taste of the scallop. While the food is very good, I think it is still second to the experience at Sushi Suzuki. And in case you are undecided and need a solid tie break, the toilet at Taneda shared with other restaurants was pretty gross. Nothing like Suzuki's Oval Office... I do not think I will come back, mainly because the flavors did not work for me.

Nestled among the stores along Broadway is the intimate dining experience that is Taneda. At just 9 seats with 2 services a night, you'll be fighting for a reservation, the hardest part of eating here. But when you're finally sitting down at the counter, you won't be disappointed.Dining at Taneda is equal parts a known and intrigue. You know you're about to eat amazing sushi. However, with Chef Taneda and Chef Ryoji's rotating menu, you're in for a surprise every time you go. When there, do get the sake flight, it's well worth it and the staff are extremely knowledgable on each bottle. Plus, it just makes the experience that much more fun with Chef Taneda, his team, and your fellow diners. You might notice I didn't mention anything about the food. That's intentional. Go in blind. Don't look up the menu before going, because the experience at Taneda is not just about the food, it's about being delightfully surprised with the textures, the flavors, and the company. And all of it is amazing. No questions asked.
