If you enjoy authentic Mexican food and have lived anywhere like Texas, New Mexico or Southern California, you will be disappointed by this place. I have been about six or seven times because I used to live near the border and crave Mexican food, so I have enough experience to leave a solid review.
My honest opinion is that if you’re craving Mexican food, then this is your best option in West Seattle. But stick to the classics like enchiladas, quesadillas, or tamales if they have them. Any other more authentic or adventurous options are not worth it.
Do not do takeout here. I have had awful experiences and my most recent one sums it up. I walked in to grab a drink at the bar and place a carryout order. The bartender never brought me my drink, but attempted to charge me for it. They did not put chips and salsa in the to go order and brought it to me at the bar with my takeout order as if I was going to eat it there. When I asked to get it to go, they gave me a frustrated look and brought me containers instead of packaging it up.
Overall, the vibe and atmosphere is decent and there’s a great Mezcal selection. But despite it being the best option in West Seattle, it is not great.

Our server Dara was awesome! She was fast, thoughtful, made great reconnections and subbed out my meal when I mistakenly ordered flour tortillas. She is awesome!!!

I have been to Matador West Seattle since they opened. As a bigger guy. I’ve always really enjoyed the atmosphere, especially being able to sit in the booths with my friends and family when I came to dine.
No longer. For some inexplicable reason, the management saw fit to bolt down the tables, and when I came in to dine today, I could no longer fit in the space between the entrance of the booths and the table. I was truly embarrassed. And before you say anything, no, I don’t want to sit at the bar, nor do I want to sit at the common table.
I no longer feel welcome at Matador, and I will never return. You have lost customer who came in pretty regularly.

I’ve lived in W. Seattle for a month and I’ve been trying to make this place my go to happy hour spot, by coming weekly, but the service at the bar has been pretty crappy until today. Idk if the walk ability or the tacos is the what’s motivated me keep trying but today there was a shift. Jalen was welcoming and I didn’t have to signal or make a grand announcement that I’m present or ready to order. He brought me water shortly after I sat down, due to my previous experience I was compelled to place my order while I had his attention. To my surprise after I placed my order my drink and food came out, I didn’t have to request a fork and napkin, and I was asked 2x how I was doing! Additionally when I asked about additional recommendations Jalen hipped me to things that weren’t on the happy hour menu and overall just made me feel human. Just when I was ready to succumb to believing that I can concoct tacos, margaritas, and be ignored just as good as they do at the Matador at home Jalen changed my perspective and I’m grateful for the interaction.

Yummmmm. I think we found our go to date night spot! Everything here was so so so good. Our waitress Dara was so sweet ! It was a darker setting which I loved. The booths were nice and roomy. I loved that they actually still serve you free chips and salsa... you dont find that often anymore. The drinks were reasonably priced and really good. Food came out fresh and hot. Cooked perfectly. Can't wait to go back and try now items! Oh they do to-go cups for unfinished drinks too!! Bill was only 120 for all you see in pictures.
