The Walrus and the Carpenter is a popular restaurant known for its difficulty to secure a seat due to its small size. It offers some of the freshest oysters in Seattle, with a taste that makes you feel like you collected them from the beach yourself. The fried oysters are light and not heavily breaded, while the Hama hama clams come with a delicious broth. The bread from Ben's Bakery, served with whipped butter, is also a must-try. The restaurant has a friendly and comfortable atmosphere, with super friendly staff and a great buzzing ambiance. It features an adjoining bar with outstanding cocktails and bar snacks. While the food and drinks are highly recommended for any oyster lover, some reviews mention a wish for more menu options, especially for vegetarians and kids. The restaurant is accessible for people in wheelchairs, as there are no stairs. It is advised to arrive early, as the place can get packed quickly. This lovely joint in Old Ballard offers a choice selection of local Washington oysters and other mains such as the Plum Salad, Billy’s Tomatoes, Scallop Crudo, and Hama Hama Clams. The drink menu also has many choice options such as the Burbank and Marvin’s Garden. Doors open at 4pm, and the line starts at 3:45-3:50. No reservations, walk ins only. If there’s no room inside at tables, there’s also a bar that can accommodate. The oyster selection was incredible albeit pricey, but definitely worth it to try. The collar was one of the most unique takes on fish, amazing smoky flavor with large chunks of fish.
