L&L Hawaiian Barbecue in North Tacoma is described as much better than the Tacoma Mall location and 100% worth going out of your way for. The restaurant is very clean with a beautiful interior and a really nice atmosphere. The staff are friendly, welcoming, attentive, and provide great customer service, even when they are slammed and the line is out the door and down the sidewalk. The food is delicious, fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care, with generous portions that are great for sharing. The chicken, shrimp, and rice are mentioned as tasty, and the rice is perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Prices are very reasonable for such high quality food. A lot is available to choose from. The BBQ Beef bowl is very good, though the online food photos are not exactly what you get, as it may be missing a few vegetables. The musubis (bbq chicken, chicken katsu, and spam) are filling, though the taste is alright and not traditional, as all of them had barbecue sauce. There can be a wait of about 20-30 minutes, so calling ahead is suggested. The new Bonney Lake location also received praise for exceptional food and fantastic hosts.
