Really cool spot, fun to explore the multi-level bar, look for the speak easy, shoot some pool, enjoy the decor. Had a drink from up top and the tiki bar below, very interesting establishment with lots of embellishments. Good drinks, didnt get food.

I used to live really close to here and for years and years and years this building was my favorite in Tacoma but was abandoned and unused. I've had the Grit City Shrimp like half a dozen times and figured they must have gotten inspiration from The South. I moved to The South recently and I've had grits at 4 places and they're all trash. Most places its like plain oatmeal or runny snot. Even the beat breakfast place around here can't hold a candle to McMenamins Grits. Get it with 2 over medium eggs. You'll never have. Grits anywhere else. Of course McMenamins has other delicious menu items. This time, for me it was The Grit City Shrimp.
As always the atmosphere is one of a kind and on point. Views were great, service was fun and attentive. Its a great place to go with kids, friends, family.

Stunning decor, great views of Tacoma, tasty beer, but I usually find the food to be just mediocre. This means, I usually just order a pizza or veggie burger. They do have some interesting seasonal specials, but I find the other McMenamin's restaurants in this building to have more appetizing food.

Disappointed this time 10-10-2025. This is our 4th time. 1st time was amazing about a year ago 5* second time a month later was great we will call it a 5*, 4 months later it dropped to a solid 3 1/2 * was ignored at the tiki bar for 30 minutes went to the ball room ordered food salmon salad was great service was slow and had to get your own drinks..today I ordered the terminator steak well let me tell you it looked amazing, now the bad it was 3/8 inch thin, had to be 6oz about 4oz after I separated the bristle and fat, about 8 bites of steak. Substituted. Fries for salad it was about 6 bites of salad, wife ordered the blackened salmon this is always good until today after 5-6 bites.. ohhhh there is a hair go to pull it out and it lifted the salmon off the lettuce. OK we done check...my Birthday dinner.. ended at another restaurant. Changed to a 1* from my original 3* because the more I think about it the more upset I get that I even paid for the steak. The steak = $5 steak from Wilco and I could have made it better..

We came to check out the elks for the free music! We took the train south and were right there. Enjoyed live music and drinks. Great way to spend an evening

We must like Mcmenamins since we've been to 6 different ones for a total of at least 15 overnights. Whenever we need a quick get away, this is top of our list. The food is great, though things are a teensy bit on the pricey side. Obviously it hasn't deterred us. The best part of these properties is the staff. We've never once had a negative interaction and I hope they all get a nice raise soon!
