“I stopped in before a long bike tour and a week later after and had excellent coffee. If you are looking for super big gulp coffee flavored milk drinks (think Starbucks or Dunkin), this place is not for you. Their espresso drinks are done right in the correct size for the style and most importantly are absolutely fantastic. I had a breakfast sandwich and took a breakfast burrito for the trail. Had I not been riding my bicycle all day, one of them might be a bit too much for a single meal for a single person, but that’s just me. They both were as tasty as the coffee…fantastic. Also…the chocolate chip cookies…mmm Definitely recommend this place.”

“I drove up to Cable, Wisconsin & got a chance check out Pioneer Bar. I'm glad I did. The staff is as welcoming as any I've encountered anywhere, and the food was AWESOME! I had steak & eggs; turned out it was one of the best steaks I've ever had.Take some time to visit & experience Pioneer Bar, among the best the Badger State has to offer.”

“Delish! This is a destination every time we are in Cable. Owner is extremely friendly and helpful. Always several pies to choose from. My favorites have been; Key Lime, Chocolate Silk, Banana Cream and Apple. Order more than one, you won’t be disappointed.”

“December 2022 (sorry for the late review) hosted our groom's dinner here. Fabulous food for 40 people (est.) all delicious, spectacularly home-made dinners, salads, appetizers. Throughout the planning process Sarah was patient. gracious, informative, flexible...just top notch all around! They handled everybody seemlessly from meat eaters to vegetarian to vegan. Next time I am in N Wisconsin, this is the only place I want to eat! I can't say enough about their food! I am drawing a blank on thr chef/owner's name but he and Sarah - they are running a true gem of s restaurant in these great woods!Oh my gosh! “The Food was great and made from someone who cares. Jamie was our server who brought plenty of coffee and homemade Jelly, assortment of herbal teas.We had HOMEMADE corned beef hash with very good rye toast .. Partner had tri tip sirloin done perfect medium and both eggs on each plate were prepared perfectly. A great little cafe in the Northwood. The cafe is a snug place, clean and highly efficient.”

“My Dad and I had a lovely time at The Portage in the adorable town of Cable, WI. The building is a new construction with a spacious interior. The decorations are carefully curated, and they have a great patio area. They also have a stage for live bands and a comfortable bar.They were celebrating Octoberfest while we visited, and we enjoyed one of their monster pretzels with our seasonal on-tap brew.We will definitely be back next time we are in the Northwoods!!!”

“Staying at the campground nearby and walked over for dinner. They were very busy. The bar was full and only one table left. That being said it could not have been a better experience. Our waitress was attentive and stayed on top of everyone’s orders. Fish and chips were delicious.”

“Diane is working by herself so don’t expect snappy service. She is absolutely delightful and a pleasure to talk to about anything. You can order whatever you want as long as it’s a burger and fries. And let me say that the half pound burger on a sourdough bun is among the BEST I’ve ever had. We enjoyed the quaint and cozy atmosphere as well. She only takes cash so be prepared and tip her well.”

“We have enjoyed Black Iron for about obout 4 years now. The food is usually great, depending on who cooks. All in all the best burger, pizza and other sandwiches. The fries arent as good as they used to be and they used to have a buffalo chicken sandwich , yumm, no longer on menu.Try it, kind of on the pricey side.”
