“Food is outstanding. Love the craft beers on tap.“
“This place is a stable for the northwoods! Love the coffee, but keep coming back for the evening vibes. The events they host are creative and fun, and they consistently support other local establishments with collaborations. Routinely rotate their cocktail menu to seasonal crafts, and their beer cool selection is huge! The service has always been wonderful, and the vibe is a great spot to hang with friends. Dog friendly outside on the patio!“

“We went on a Saturday night for drinks, great food and live music. Had an awesome time. Our service was very good and everything we ordered was excellent. The band Unity performed and we will seek them out in the future to see where we can enjoy their music again.“

“Just updated their menu, great food hand-made to order not prepackaged, not burger "patties". The clam chowder is EXCELLENT. I haven't had a bad fish meal yet. Excellent flavor on each. Just tried the BBQ Bourbon Maple burger with sweet potato fries most recently - YUM! Due to the size of the place and the kitchen you WILL have a long wait on a Friday and sometimes a Saturday. Either be patient and expect it or go another night. They are one of the rare area places open on Monday night. Thursdays and Sundays are also great nights to go without a wait. Every place is packed on Friday around here and most cannot get the staff, space or kitchen capacity to meet it so don't complain or say you weren't expecting a wait that day. Glad to have this place reopened and offering some excellent seafood you can't find anywhere else.“

“We stayed in Nic and Marlo's Black Bear Bungalow condo over the extended 4th of July holiday weekend and really enjoyed our stay. The condo is part of the former Black Bear Lodge, located on Little Saint Germain Lake's most desirable peninsula. The condo was freshly painted, very clean and well appointed with beautiful new major and small kitchen appliances, washer and dryer. Though we brought all of our own dishes, utensils, towels, etc. we found the kitchen cabinets were well stocked with dishes, glassware, kitchen utensils, towels and consumable supplies. We were pleased with the large master bedroom (King Bed) + master bathroom and second bedroom (2x Twin Beds + Pack-n-Play crib) with a second bathroom down the hall. Multiple closets in the bedrooms, bathroom and hallway offered generous storage to accommodate our family of family of 5.A beautiful new gas fireplace insert was installed in the open concept living room area days prior to our visit and a comfortable, large couch appeared fresh out of the showroom.High speed internet, WiFi, board games and large, flat panel Smart TV's in the living room and master bedroom kept us connected and entertained when it rained. We used the permanently installed charcoal grills, picnic tables and playground equipment just outside of the unit daily and noticed a dedicated boat slip was available ~50-feet from the sliding back patio door. Thanks to Nic and Marlo for a great stay... We'll be back again later this month!“

“We stopped on our way home from Minocqua. Have driven past for many years and always noticed a lot of cars so had to stop and check it out for lunch. Felt like we were part of the locals. French onion soup was the best I have ever had. Will definitely stop again next trio to the northwoods.“

“Got to town after a long flight, this was the first place I went. This juicy burger was a magnificent start to a much needed vacation. It was locally sourced butcher meat cooked to a perfect medium rare, the perfect burger. Toasted bun, hot fries, at my table minutes after I ordered.
Wonderful atmosphere, the regulars and staff interacted with each other like a family, and I got to join it for about an hour on a Saturday. I’ll be here again on my way out of town, highly recommended.“

“We get the Tom Turkey wrap for lunch pick up often and it is the best!!! Great flavor, packed with meat and enough for two people to share. We came in for dinner on Saturday night & sat at the bar and had John as our server. He was amazing. Beyond friendly, hard working (training someone, taking orders, delivering meals, replenishing coolers - all with a calm demeanor and kind heart) attentive and kind. We have dined in before and this was the best service we have had there. Hats off to John ~ he is an asset to the establishment. Ate the summer salad and Angry bird and both were great. Have had pizza here & it is always delicious, lots of it and priced fairly. Groceries, gas, lodging, dining, drinks.....all of these have increased in price since Covid. St. Germain is not exempt from that and they all work hard to deliver to all of us who come up and enjoy the beauty of the area.“

“We vacation in the Northwoods fall and winter, and "The Whale" is almost always our first stop when we hit town around Suppertime on our way into town. FIRST, our server Sophia, was wonderful...on the ball, quick, friendly. This year, we noticed a couple changes that we didn't care for. The problems were (1) we were there on a FRIDAY, and the "Friday Fish Fry Menu" doesn't give people many food choices if you don't want fish, shrimp, or clam chowder. I had my heart (and stomach) set on their DELICIOUS sandwiches that come with their home-made chips and Au Jus dip. There used to be at least TWO of those on the menu...they were no longer offered on Friday nights. (2) We opted for the Friday Fish Fry, and were asked if we wanted tarter sauce and/or a couple other choices. I said YES to regular Tarter, and my wife took that AND the Honey/Mustard. When our bill arrived, we found that we were CHARGED $0.75 for EACH of those. REALLY? I've never been to a place that didn't include a lemon slice and tarter sauce by default as a normal part of the fish-fry plate.“
