We went to Grampa's pizza and sat outside. The staff were very nice, helpful and attentive. Unfortunately the pizza was below average. It was exceptionally greasy and the thin crust, which I would have expected to be a bit crispy, was rather soggy. The flavor, once you got past the layer of oil on the surface, was pretty good. The shortbread cookies that come with the bill were a nice touch, though. If the pizza had not been saturated with grease it would have easily...
Our new favorite spot in Madison for a good kick of spice from the octopus and Calabrian chiles on the arugula ricotta pizza. The pizza is light and thin. We also enjoyed the beef carpaccio. But for me, the highlight was the ginger cake. Freshly baked (warm on the inside) with whipped cream and pistachios. Flavors are spot on, not too sweet, not too spicy, just right. We also had the risotto which was delicious and comforting - also perfectly cooked al dente.
The food here, the pizza specifically, is excellent. The service, looks like it varies due to the servers personal perception of your party. She dotes on young people, seems to ignore older couples, maybe cuz she is young. Saves on the tip money though. I would stop again if I found myself in Madison just for the pizza. Might get it to go and save her from being bothered to wait on us.
