Cliff, the owner is kind and thoughtful. The jerk chicken, bbq beans, and candied yams were so delicious and plentiful. My daughter enjoyed the fried haddock and french fries. We'd go back!

I wanted this place to be good because I live so close and they’re supposed to be selling something like soul food. It was everything but that. First off, I didn’t mind that everyone including the owner was sitting around, music blasting, drinking with the other employees. Whatever. So, I ordered jerk chicken with cabbage and black eyed peas. The chicken was okay but nothing was jerk about it. The cabbage was doused in pepper. The food tasted like they made it days ago and reheated it in the oven. My fiancé ordered rib tips and they were so dry and chewy she couldn’t eat it. They charged me $40 dollars but the menu price only added up to $32. Was the tip just automatic? Not to mention we have tried to eat here numerous times and it was closed every time. 0 stars.

A few weeks back during Black Restaurant Week, I checked out Willy Street Eats. I opted for their cheese steak and fries. The food was prepared fresh to order, and it's rare to find a standout cheese steak in Madison, but this one was not just good--it was fantastic! The owner's hospitality added to the experience, ensuring I'll return for more.Quick note: My friend went for the oxtail and raved about how tender it was--literally falling off the bone! I've made a mental note to try that next time; it sounds like a must-try dish.

I had the fried chicken dinner with potato salad and black eyed peas as sides. The potato salad was baller. Great portion of chicken, not greasy. Can't wait to try the jerk chicken or ribs next time.

The food is excellent and portions are generous. I had the rib tips and side of cabbage. Probably the best side of cabbage I’ve ever had at a restaurant.

Good catfish fish and chips. Other options available. Soul food menu. Looks like a dive, but food is good and reasonably priced. Not a date place. More of a solo job.

It was recommended that I try the jerk chicken by the person working there. So I got the jerk chicken with a side of mac and cheese, collard greens, fries and corn bread. All of the sides were good! The mac and cheese portion was small but that was the least of the problem. The jerk chicken would have been good because it was seasoned and cooked well except that the way it was served was very off-putting. I think it was all or mostly dark meat chicken that was chopped up into small pieces with a cleaver, bones and all. Every small piece of chicken had bone attached to it. I don't know if this was a mistake or if this is a traditional way of serving jerk chicken, but it was bad! I would estimate that by the time we were done, there was a pile of chicken bone fragments half the size of the chicken we started with. This whole meal costed me $25. It was not worth it. If you want return customers I would recommend not chopping the chicken this way anymore. It even seems dangerous to serve it this way, someone could break their tooth or choke. I was excited about having a soul food restaurant a few blocks from my house... Pretty disappointed though
