Only problem with their pies is they don’t last very long!
If you are in Maiden Rock on Saturday during the open season, get to the bakery no later than 8:00am to get a spot in line for the 9:00 opening. I’m serious, if you wait until 9:00, you will miss out or go without. Sandra (baker/owner) is a friend of mine, so I’m a bit biased, but after my 40+ years in the baking industry she’s “one class act”, and her products are spot on.

Smiling Pelican Bake Shop is a small but wonderful place that produces incredible breads and pastries with tons of flavor. It has a beautiful garden where customers can enjoy their treats. Due to its popularity, it's best to arrive early, as items sell out quickly. Now operating on a Saturday-only schedule, the bakery has adapted to the new reality and continues to draw in locals and visitors from the Twin Cities alike.
