The last time I had a “proper” Kolache was twelve years ago on a run from Dallas to Austin for a meeting. Low and behold half way through the trip was a bakery with a sign up announcing Kolaches. Without hesitation the car was wheeled in to the parking lot with a dash through the entrance door to a counter loaded with “traditional” open faced kolaches. The bakers dozen of sesame, apricot, and assorted others did not make it from that bakery to Austin.

My family has been making special trips to this bakery for three last 5 years after discovering it on a road trip. It's such a little hidden gem. Fair warning though, under the new ownership they DO NOT have the Swedish Donuts anymore. We tried several of their offerings and they were all delicious in their own way, but it didn't hit like the Swedish Donuts we've been making trips for.
